Default How has your attitude toward Welker's SB46 non-catch changed since the game?

All this Welker contract discussion has prompted me to go back and re-watch the Super Bowl 46 catch that wasn't.

Wes Welker Missed Catch Super Bowl 46 - YouTube

At the time, I wasn't really upset with Welker, because of the usual cliches -- 60-minute game, team game, etc.

However, now I've that re-watched the video, I can't help but focus on Welker's non-catch as being pivotal in the loss.

How about the rest of the community?

Was a fairly poor throw and he wasn't able to make a fairly difficult catch, it's sad that some fans aren't smarter than to give into the have-to-pick-a-bad-guy mentality. He came up big overall in the game I thought, one of the better performers. People who point to single plays and scapegoats after games like that are tough to take seriously, especially since if you are going to go down that road Brady made far more mistakes in the game than did any other offensive player.

Wish he caught it, but too many other opptys over the course of the 4thQ to blame him for the loss.

I can get over lack of execution. It happens. It's not like he wasn't focused enough or didn't practice enough. For some unknown reason, it just didn't happen. It's infinitely lower on my "blame scale" than Asante Samuel on the play that should never have happened. That wasn't lack of execution. That was choosing not to execute at all. It's why I think Asante Samuel is a bum and do not think that Welker is.

No game ever comes down t0 just 1 play. it seems like 1 play at a time, but every play for 60 minutes counts towards winning or losing. some just get highlighted morethan others (just ask Bill Buckner, i'd leave Cartman alone).

on a side note, NEP4Life, what's with all the WW polls?

This is becoming downright idiotic now.

I don't think about it and pretend like it didn't happen. Rewatchting the video and dwelling on it isn't going to change anything.

Man, I was hoping someone would bring this up. I thought I was the only one who noticed that play ...

It's a team game. While him missing the catch was a stand-out moment as to why we lost, there were plenty of other plays before that and after that, had they been made, would have made a difference in the outcome too. Welker was appropriately devastated after the game. That is enough for me.

Dumb ass thread

Anyone who blames Welker on the SB loss for not catching a pass that was catchable but not perfect is a full blown moron who doesn't deserve to be a fan of the Pats

Some forget about the 1,500 yards that Welker caught in the 18 games before that

No Welker and who knows if this team even comes close to getting to the Super Bowl

If you change your mind about a very good player and an important cog on the offense because of one play then you need to take up another hobby because you don't deserve to be a fan.

Every great NFL player has had more than one bad moment.....I can assure you that.

We might as well hate Brady too for throwing that pick to Bailey in the 2005 divisional game or the interception to Marlin Jackson in the 2006 AFCCG
