I expect Brady to be around for about another 4 years. People look too deep into this "window of opportunity". I think regardless of any major signings, the pats will be SB contenders as long as Brady is here. And when he's gone we are still going to want to win.

There may be more when today's transactions are all announced.
But after 23 hours of free agency, the patriots have signed four players (3 re-signs and 1 from another team).
BTW, how many have the other playoff teams signed?

You may expect Brady to be around but that does not mean that BB does.
We do have a window of opportunity with Brady, he is not a Spring chicken anymore. If Peyton Manning to be released anyone can. BB has proven that loyalty for the Patriots is a one way street.
Re: You guys will be thanking Bill in the future....
It is what it is.
BB certainly won't draft big time FAs because of one of our threads. But, it's the ritual of being able to get excited about your team going into the next season (which I understand). It's be interestign to see how well the Chand and Hanyseworth signings were. Still, he hit reasonably well on the aging vertern signings (Waters, Carter, Anderson) that didn't cause much excitement (though most of us thought the Waters signing was very fortunate).

Amazing how people are blind to the FACT that we normally have one of the deepest rosters talent wise in the NFL and allows the team to be competitive whe injuries (inevitably) occur.

I don't have to thank him latter, I will thank him now. BB and his staff understand that they don't have to go after the high price free agents. They find players that fit their system and are cap friendly. Belichick pays big money to the right players (Brady, Wilfork, Mayo, Welker (one year, maybe more), Moss extension etc). Belichick has managed to rebuild his team without having a losing season. That is pretty impressive in the free agency era.

In the upcoming months they will make the necessary trades and acquire the necessary players through the draft to contend for another SB.
Screw that. I have a dirty little secret for you; once Brady is gone, we're not winning a Super Bowl anytime soon. Realistically, Brady has maybe three seasons left in him. If there ever was a time to go out and get a Wallace or a Jackson or a Williams it's this offseason. Carpe diem- seize the day. If it means being in salary cap hell in 2015 or 2016, then so be it.

I don't think offense was the reason we didn't win the super bowl. If I was going to break the bank it would be loading up on defense.

I would tend to disagree; the defense played good enough to win that game. Regardless, that wasn't my point. My point was is it's time to go out and win now; we're not winning in 2015 or 2016, so screw it and go out and pay for one of the big names out there like a Mario Williams or Mike Wallace. Adding either one of those names on either side of the ball would be HUGE and make us the odds on favorite to win next year.

Great explaniation of why you will never be a GM.
BTW How do you know Mallett won't be say A Rogers, not the GOAT like Brady but an all pro?
