Default Tedy Bruschi just reviewed defensive pre-snap calls just now (ESPN 2 @ 6:30)

...Oh, boy do I wish I recorded it. If any of you did? Please share!

So, it was just for one play against the Ravens where they were in a 3-4 and the TE went in motion across the formation from Flacco's blind side to what would be playside. They handed off to the RB....

So, Bruschi called out all the defensive calls in real time. This is where I couldn't keep up:

He called out the formation
Then he called out "Yac" motion
Then he called out the strength
and he also pointed out how all the above shifted the line from a 3-4 to a 4-3

...and the Patriots totally stuffed the play in the backfield.

Yup, typical offensive terminology

Y = Tight end/inside receiver
Y/AC = Slot/end motion

There are other calls like "Ying," and other phonetic key words that define the shifts. "Xing" and "Zip" are similar words that apply to different positions.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that part...

But the D switched from 3-4 to 4-3, pre-snap.

That's pretty interesting.

the difference between a 4-3 and 3-4 doesn't always mean much.
it's just about the alignments, etc.

you can have a 3 man front and walk an olb up on the line -- if he stands up it's still technically a 3 man front, but if he puts a hand down it turns into a 4 man front.
what's the difference?

teh 4-3 under the pats were playing earlier in the year is pretty similar to a 3-4, really, which is how teams like the pats can remain flexible and try to keep the qb guessing.

Yeah. 43-under and 34 reg D isn't much different from each other. Most of it is alignment. We saw few times for most of the season were Pats were in a 4-3 D and Ninko came down and Andre got up from a 3 pt stance to a 2 pt stance and the D line shifted.

Darn missed it! As Bruschi knows what a defensive pre-snap is. Been there and done that himself.
