Default (Largely) overlooked Welker facts

Given GRONKnandez's domination of late, it's worth noting that Welker has notched two more major accomplishments:

(1) Last week Welker joined Marvin Harrison and Jerry Rice as the only players in NFL history with four 100-catch seasons.

(2) This week Welker brought his catch total to 536. This puts him second all-time in Pats history:

1. Troy Brown 557 catches/192 games
2. Wes Welker 536 catches/75 games
3. Stanley Morgan 534 catches/180 games

Should've been a Patriot sooner.

He has been so productive. I wonder what he is going to cost us?

I don't think as much as people think. He is in the ideal system for him, and Tom Brady is his binky more so than he is Brady's.

he wont be paid like a #1 outside WR, but i think itll be closer than ppl think

the guy is a monster, being in the top 3 WR in the league this year...manipulate that however you want, but it will still be true

he WILL get paid, and with the increases in salary cap that are assumed to be coming i dont mind

just look at holmes, the guy sucks now, and is being paid like 7 or 8mil a year? or was it 10? i expect wes to not reach that type of deal, but hit a close one

how much interest do you think wes will have in the open market?

Stanley Morgan, best WR in Pats history.

I think he might have been if they didn't already have Troy Brown.

Stanley Morgan was the best WR in Pats history;

but Wes Welker is the best WR in Pats history

I am old enough to have seen Stanley in his prime. With today's rules, he would be even better. But what Wes is doing is truly amazing. To think that we were getting a hall-of-famer in that seemingly minor trade with the Dolphins... well, that was a crazy notion. It is now a real possibility, if neither side screws up and keeps Wes in the same uniform for the rest of his career.

I would argue that had the Patriots still had Branch, the Pats wouldn't have gone out and got both Moss and Welker..Or neither...Strange how things turn out...

Actually, I think they would have gotten Moss regardless; for a fourth, the possible upside was too high to pass up.

OTOH, I agree that had Branch been in NE in 2006, they might not have felt a need to pony up a second to go after Welker in 2007.
