Default Gronk 3 TD's Away from Tying Tight End TD Record

Three more touchdowns and Gronk will have tied Antonio Gates' record of 13 touchdowns in a single season. This record should fall to Gronk in only his second season. For perspective, let's assume that Gronk breaks the record and gets 14 this season (a low estimate in my mind). That will give him 24 touchdown receptions in his two year career. It took Tony Gonzales ten years in the league to beat Sharpe's career record of 62, and in only two Gronk may already be beyond 1/3rd of the way there.

His blocking is well known. I just thought it should be mentioned more often that we are looking at a 22 year old kid who very well may become the measuring stick.

He's an incredible athlete. At 22 years old, to be this polished, route running, hands, great blocker. Totally amazing. To think, he will most likely become even better than he is now. Aaron Hernandez is no slouch either.

I'll take it one further... if he continues at his current pace and finishes with 16 TD's (26 in his career), that means he'll be AVERAGING the TD record per season thus far

Semi-OT: I couldn't watch the replay of his second touchdown last night. The way he landed on his neck gave me shivers.

I've seen enough football to know that the spine is capable of great flexion, but not great compression. Luckily for Rob, that hit caused great flexion, but not great compression.

This is great news and is a testament to how much he's improved over the course of the season. With that said, I wish we had some WR's not named Welker to take some of those TD's away from him on a consistent basis.

It must be incredibly difficult to scheme defences that can react with a double team to a TE who could play either side of the line and run so many different routes or just be in their to block.

I totally agree but the two stats that jump out at me are the 20 TDs in his first 25 games in the NFL. I am not a stat guy at all but I doubt anyone in NFL history WR, RB, TE or heck QB's get 20 TD in their first 25 games. Just think if he played the amount of games that Tony G. played in 222 games since he started his career (only missed two games over his NFL career which is a stat I did not realize). Gronk would have 176 TD if he keeps at his pace of a TD in 80% of his games.

This kid is special and how he got up after his second TD is beyond me as he took a flip only few humans would be able to get up from.

On a side not I was not sure if it was Gronk or did the Pats send Solder down field on a few pass plays. I thought for sure as I saw a # 7 but was not sure if it was 87 or 77 down field on the throw went to Branch. Man I was so happy when the Pats went to the set with Soldier at TE with Gronk and ran the ball to change momentum. We looked good and move people with the great run blockers we have on the edge.

it's nice when BB drafts a guy I covet, and he ends up surpassing everybody's wildest dreams.

He will SHATTER that record... it won't be to the degree of Devin Hester's annihilation of KR and PR records(best return man ever), but GRONK is amazing at TE both blocking and catching. I can draw similar comparrisons w/ GRONK if he like hester did/does keep up his/ (their) Dominance they both are shoe in HOF guys

when one breaks a Mike Ditka TE record you know you have somebody real special.

EXTEND THE BEAST 6 YRS WOULD BE NICE we have him for 2 more.... so the ext would be an added 5 yrs

sign him sooner rather than later.

he will be a STEAL when the future cap grows

even w/ Life after Brady... we still need the GRONK

or will they make him play for his $$$ the next 2 years and then play TAG? I hope not

TFB needs a BIG pay cut if he wants GRONK

I'll get laughed ay for proposing this, but IDC get this done at end of the season.

I understand we have him CHEAP for the next 2 years... but down the road he will cost HUGE$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ if we fail to extend him ASAP. The cap will grow and his contract won't be HUGE 3-4 years in after he signs it. Does this move hurt us financially in the next 2 years (yes). IT, however will pay dividends when the CAP # GROWS Significanty

You must live a very, very miserable life. I'm all for realism, but I've honestly never once seen you post a positive sentiment on this message board. Where there's nothing negative to say, you invent something (like that thread where you repeatedly asserted that Brian Waters is terrible). Do you get off on this crap, or can you just not help it?
