I was wondering the thoughts on the board of the Felger and Mazz show Monday. They did a great deal of the show breaking down the Patriots poor personnel moves over the course of the last several years.
They analyzed the draft, and other personnel decisions they have made. Personally, I am not against criticizing the draft or the moves, but why are they doing this after one loss?
Do you think this is an interesting discussion right now, or should we more focus on the Steelers loss as one game and discuss that more?
I will be doing my show "Patriots Fourth And Two" tonight at 7PM EST and plan on focusing on the loss. We will be breaking it down and just giving our thoughts on it.
I don't plan on talking about the draft, but I was curious what everyone thought about this topic, and the Felger and Mazz show.
Thanks
Russ

I think it is a relevant discussion. We are entering week 9 and our D just looks incompetent and has been for some time now. You gotta look at the reasons for it and i think personnel moves are big part of it. We are the Colts right now...a great offense that can be slowed down and a defense that can't make up for it.

I think its valid to be asking why you'd cut Bodden 2 days before a big game, leaving us, frankly, with unproven scrubs making up a secondary
I also think you have to question why we released Sanders and Merriweather again with very little to replace them
Yes this is one loss but its was a beat down tbh and against a likely playoff team. We'll beat the low ed teams with Brady, of course we will, the fear is against a top rated AFC team we'll come unstuck when the offense is slowed down
But they have done this exact same show for two years running now...Felger rants and rants and rants about the draft...always the same argument..nothing new.
For once, I wish they would stop *****ing and focus the show on what to do to fix it...it gets old.
Examine the Belichick philosophy change. Premium assets (high draft choices, big money contracts) have been utilized on the OL and TE position recently. Big contracts at LT, LG, RG, with #1 at T, and a #2 at RT. Compare that to the DL where BB once focused the highest draft picks...Seymour, Warren, Wilfork...but now is satisfied with aging castoffs from other teams. It's all about protecting Brady and maintaining continuity on the line, no matter the cost.
The Defense.....
My guess is that BB NEVER expected McCourty to regress like we have seen this year. McCourty has gone from a 7 INT rookie phenom to arguably the most picked on CB in the league. Coming into the season, I'm betting Belichick figured McCourty's side of the field was secure, Revis style, and BB could reconfigure his remaining DBs to present a tight secondary. Not so. With QBs just gunning it at McCourty, the pass rush isn't given enough time to be effective.
A fair discussion should include COACHING. Patriots DBs regress year over year. The blitz schemes are very ineffective.
Also, tell your audience to compare the upcoming Giants DL vs the Patriots DL. Athletic vs stout. One attacks the QB unrelenting, the other excels at run stoppage. In today's NFL....who has it right?

The draft history and personnel decisions are very relevant topics for discussion. This defense is one of the worst in the NFL and has a significant lack of playmakers on it = in other words it ain't gettin' better any time soon.
On offense the wideouts are small and not terribly fast. Physical defenses (Ravens, Steelers, Jets) give them problems.
The guy who's been shopping for the groceries needs to answer for it.
The real shame is how Tom Brady's prime has been/is being wasted vis-a-vis championships because of those groceries.
