Default OT: Bears extend DT Harris [merged]

http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/home_NFL.aspx

Bears agreed to terms with DT Tommie Harris on a four-year extension through 2012. Profootballtalk.com reports the deal is worth $40 million.

He'll receive $27 million in the first three years, putting the deal in the Randy Moss range and making Harris the NFL's richest DT. Harris, 25, will hit free agency again at the age of 29. If he can avoid recurring knee injuries, Harris should get three huge contracts, including his rookie deal. It's also a good move for the Bears, who are locking up arguably the league's best "three technique" defensive tackle. Harris had eight sacks and forced two fumbles in 2007 despite playing at less than 100% almost all season.

Does Wilfork deserve the same or less then Harris? both are great players but with different responsibilities and playing styles...

We need to do whatever we can to lock up big Vince he is one of those players that can still be effective in his 30's and your right due to his responsibilities in this defense will never flash on the stat sheets.
But arguably is the most important player in the league of any defense.
Wow how did he slip to 21?

That trophy represents the team – I mean that word collectively, that is able to play the best season for the year that it's engraved. It doesn't mean anything about what happened the year before. It doesn't say what's the best team, which has the most talented players, which teams has the biggest payroll, smallest payroll. It stands for the team that played the best in that season. Put the number on there for that year. And the next year we start all over again everybody is at the same point."

100% agree. he is a must re-sign. the fact that he gets pressure on the qb despite being a dt in a 3-4, and he's huge, just goes to show what an athelete he is. he'll be dominate on our d for many more years.

PATIENCE drafting by the Pats...while teams like the Jets and Saints certainly needed a DT, their bigger needs at the time were at MLB and OT(Vilma and Jamaal Brown), respectively. Both BB/Pioli saw this, and were wise enough not to trade the kitchen sink.

I was listening to Sirius Satellite Radio last night and one of their analysts said that Albert Haynesworth is the best defensive tackle in the NFL BAR NONE....

So keeping out any homerisms......how does wilfork compare to haynesworth??

Ive given alot of thought to this and I think that in run defense there really isnt a difference between the two and in rushing the quarterback haynesworth has an edge but not by much..........AND with wilfork there is no worry about him trying to take someones eye out with his cleat!

another difference is that haynesworth is a tool. people down here are starting to get a little angry with his holdout. he's pulling an assante, and doesnt want the team to be able to franchise him again. however, from a players view, i suppose he feels he's doing what he has to, to feed his family

The two have diff responsibilities in different defensive schemes. Albert could not be a true NT clogging the middle as Vince is.

I would think Wilfork's value would be in the Harris range on the open market.

Default Tommie Harris Contract Impact?

What impact will Tommie Harris' record breaking contract have on the resigning of Wilfork and Seymour (should Seymour retain his Pro Bowl form this season)?
