I read it was because he was inducted into his alma mater's HOF. In which case, big deal.

He was inducted into the Southwestern Oklahoma hall of fame and wore the blazer/made the comments as a joke.

I know he's a hated rival but come on, have a sense of humor.

I also hope the Pats win 49-0, but I thought this was pretty funny, the likable side of Rex.

Boston.com had a little bit more of Rex's now-familiar 'aw shucks, it's li'l ol' me vs Belichick the Great' routine:

Quote:
“He’s the best coach in football. If it comes down to us, he’s going to win it. I don’t have a problem saying that. I’m not in that class. But I’m going to compete, I’m going to give him everything I have
Ryan has gotten a lot of mileage rallying his players behind their humble coach against the Evil Genius, and this is part of that.

I hate the Jets. No, actually, I HATE the Jets. I want us to beat them 73-0 every time we play them. I hope they go 1-15 every year (splitting their series against the Dolphins, who also go 1-15 every year).

But I just can't hate Ryan. He's a blowhard big-mouth lunatic and all that, but he's a good coach and he has a great sense of humor and he seems to keep it all very real.

i like rex, he's a funny guy

he takes all the spotlight, or at least he tries to, off his players

i think that's smart

it's a different approach, but it's not bad IMO

he's quite a character

With the greatest of respect to Rex, if he stands in the spotlight no light is going to hit the players. It's science.
