In a real sense of course, being that we had 4 turnovers and still almost won this game, what does that say about us as a team?

I don't like saying this but maybe its a good thing that we lost in the sense that we are accepting these holes and drawbacks for the team. I think if we won that game, we would be celebrating about the close win but I also don't think we would be so hard on the team and the defense as a whole. I still think we had a decent offensive game other than the turnovers.

On the flip, this loss is totally detering people on the awesome game Welker had out there. He got me 40.16 fantasy points and thats crazy. Gronk played well but everyone is focusing on the negative. I have no problem with this as we need to address these issues but I'm wondering what would happen if we won the game. I can gaurantee half of these "concern" threads would not have been created even though we still had a terrible game defensively.

Does this team winning most of the time cover up our real issues? I've notice that when we win, there are a ton of threads on the good things we do even though each game we've given up alot of yards to opposing offenses.

No question--just look at the first two weeks. The defensive problems were largely dismissed with "look at the scoreboard" type stuff.

Yes, definitely. But I'm sure BB and the people who need to know would be addressing the obvious problems on defense.

It goes for offense to, for a team that was up double digits for a good portion of the game we didn't run NEARLY enough. Maybe this loss will be a good thing in those respects. Hate to sound like a broken record but we have to run more.

Is your question about the fans on this board or people who actually matter?

If you mean fans, there would be posts on this board questioning the defense or the penalties or the turnovers but generally they would be responded to with "They are 3-0."

If you mean the coaches & players, no. We have heard for years that BB rips them to shreds in meetings the next day win or lose when they don't play well and make mistakes.

I look at it the other way around:

Because we lost this game, are our problems being overemphasized?

Every team has problems, and week 3 too early to know what will happen. And here we have very high standards, probably higher than anywhere else. An example is Buffalo, where they are ecstatic even though routinely falling behind by 3TDs early in a game is not the mark of a solid team.

this is 100% true. Even when they won the first 2 weeks people complained about the defense but said at least the won now that hte trolls nad naysayers have a chance they are bombing the site with what they were saying already only now others can't say at least they are winning

Actually I'm quite OK with this loss... Better lose against the Buffalo now, so Bill can chew their arses and bring them back to earth, rather than lose week 5 and we all jump off bridges...

Probably. However I have said that the past 2 weeks that the defense was a mixed bag after each win. The fact remains. They had 2 picks but they put no pressure at all on Fitzpatrick at all. Plus they gave up a ridiculous amount of yards.

Whatever QB the pats D faces they get lit up. Henne threw for 416 yards, Rivers 378 and Fitzpatrick 369. Rivers I can understand but if Henne and Fitzpatrick do that then there are issues.

The only difference between yesterdays game and games week 1 and 2 (beside the outcome of course) is that Brady showed he is human. If Brady has a bad game then defense simply cannot bail him out.

I guess people would feel better if we performed well and got beat rather than what happened. We made some mistakes and the other guys took advantage of those mistakes.

We knew we had defensive issues and hoped that some of the players we brought in would help. I'm still willing to give the defense a chance to improve. It doesn't have to be "all world" (average can do) for us to do well and make into the 2nd round of the post season.

Frankly, I've tried avoiding the boards figuring everyone would be complaining about everything from play calling to the refs (but I've got to talk to some of my own people, so I'm here).

The big thing here is seeing how Brayd handles this. I think he believes that his team must score 30+ points in order for them to win and right now that feels about right. WE had lots of wounded people yesterday and tha tcan throw off the rythm at times. Still a team that needs more time to come together and we may have another game like this. This seems to be the identity we have on defense and may need a few turnovers to help every now and then.
