BB Statement on Wheatley: "He Is Smart" Typical Pats Pick :--)
In a written statement, Patriots coach Bill Belichick had this to say about second-round pick Terrence Wheatley:
"Terrence Wheatley was a really good player for Colorado. He is smart. He has played multiple positions, both inside and outside. He returns kicks. I think he can contribute in a number of different spots. He is a very athletic guy and had a very productive career at Colorado."

I know - right down to the 3 SB's, one of the top defenses in NFL history, etc
The "Hey hes a midget" crowd needs to check themselves before they wreck themselves. Asante, Hobbs - small guys but they can play. BB knows what hes doing. He looks to get smart, team oriented guys.

At first aghast, I was surprised to see Mayock had him rated as the 64th best player in the draft. To which I said, "oh well, never mind..."

Felger started his question, "Correct me if I'm wrong," BB quickly interjected, "I can't wait--"
``The officials now are evaluating the players and their performance, I mean, that's great,'' Belichick deadpanned. ``I can't say how much that means to me, really.''

We won a Super Bowl with small CBs playing for half the season in 2004. Samuel, Gay, and Troy are not exactly giants.
The guy who covered Randy the best this year at least during the regular season was Lito Shepperd who is 5-10 and 194 lbs. Not exactly a large guy either and he seemed to play ok against the 6-4 210 lb Moss.
Personally, I think the whole size of CBs are overrated in a lot of cases. If you can get a physical small CB who can jam the WR at the line of scrimage, that is a great size equalizer.

Here's the deal with size. It's an advantage, but overrated as one. Skill can make up for it.
The place where it rears it's ugly head the most is on those fade routes to the corner of the endzone. In these cases, the receiver can usually get an extra six inches height on the defender, assuming both can jump equally high proportional to height.
That means the QB has to float the ball into a six inch window with perfect timing. If they can do that, they're probably going to do so regardless of the height disadvantage.

Sheppard had help over the top the entire game. He also was credited for "shutting down Owens in Dallas", when Owens was doubled the entire game. No cornerback can match up one on one with Owens or Moss. No one.

Sheppard had a lot of help over top from the safety. It was scheme coverage, not man on man.
