Re: The official Vow to enjoy the 2009 season no matter the outcome...
Other than a period of time after the superbowl, looking back I think I enjoyed the heck out of last season, I watched very little ESPN last year, not because of any personal unhappiness with the network (that's something I've mostly picked up since joining here and getting a bit more of the NE perspective, down in FL, any news is good news no matter what the talking heads in suits have to actually say about it), but because I was enjoying the season and games so much, hearing anyone talk about it, spygate, and the rest was taking away from my enjoyment of the success, the winning, the domination in a lot of cases. I had the good fortune to be able to go to the Bills game in Buffalo, with a Buffalo fan, surrounded by Pats fans, and the sheer support of Pats Nation was mind boggling on the road. We whoooped them, I broke my watch (clapping in a blowout and kinetic winder watches don't mix!), but seeing the Pats fans almost outnumber the Bills fans as we ran it up was a wonderful feeling. The SB hurt, but it hurts no matter if you go 12-4 and lose in the playoffs, or 18-1 and lose in the SB - you love them for as good as they are, as hard as they play, etc, but you can't help but be sad if they lose. With that said, a little sadness regarding this team is a drop in the bucket, and I feel like the luckiest sports fan alive whenever I think about what this team has done, and how much I've enjoyed every minute of it, so I think I'll enjoy this year as much as the last, and the ones before that. Funny thing, even though we haven't won since '04, I don't look back on any season in between then and now with unhappiness, so I feel pretty good about the year coming up, even if it doesn't include going 19-0...not that I'm not hoping (and confident that if they do what we know they can do) they do play a perfect season!
