Default Guregian: Watson had ankle surgery, training camp status "iffy" [merged]

According to Boston Herald

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/f...icleid=1083284

This was the result of the Horse Collar tackle by Dallas Safety Williams

Watson may not be ready by Training camp.

That would explain why he was as explosive after the catch as he was in years past. Does Williams get fined everytime he does this?

Wow, Williams really should be suspended. How many people has he hurt now? Considering what happened to Musa Smith, Watson's is extremely lucky. I still remember Ray Lewis freaking out when he saw Musa's legging flopping around in a way it was not meant to.

Edit: apparently he was suspended for 1 game last year, but it was due to his 3rd (!) horsecollar of the season. It's absolutely ridiculous that he got off so easy. Paging Mr. Goodell, please focus on issues that are actually relevant to the game.

Ugh, now we'll draft another tight end in round 1

Once or twice is a mistake, but Williams horsecollar antics are more than that. Pissed me off. The game is violent enough without that crap.

Somebody's gotta pull a Haynesworth on this character..

And people say Rodney is bad. Jesus. When does he get the half year he deserves?

its a violent sport the nfl puts rules into protect the players. without getting into wether roy deserved or not. where does the line cross horse caller...what if someone facemasks really hard....or cut clocks.....
IMO any suspension for on field rules violations is harsh.

EDIT:sometimes neccesary.

I hope we can see him have a year where he is fully healthy and can show what he's capable of.
One question I have is they say he's currently participating in the conditioning program, how could you consider him a question mark for training camp? I would think the only way you'd be questionable for training camp this early is if you couldn't walk, let alone work out.

Williams has established a clear pattern of tackling in a way that causes injury - frequently requiring surgery. That's 3 players (at least) that have undergone surgery because of the way he tackles when he gets beat.

I understand it's a tough game. Hard hits are one thing, snapping legs and tearing up ankles on a regular basis is another because of a very specific tackle that only 1 player really uses is another. It's like he's channeling Alex Gibbs so he can be the sum total of all the cut blocking lines of the last 10 years.

And the NFL sees fit to suspend him - he's been warned repeatedly, knows he's not supposed to do it, and yet he keeps doing it, like a small, violent child.

The way Hobbs and Watson played through injury this year has made me appreciate them a lot more. Hopefully the Pats can sign Watson and Wilfork up to long deals soon.
