Default OT: Rams Give Trent Green a Fairly Sizable Contract...

Can this guy even play anymore? They gave him a 3 yr., $8.9 million dollar contract, w/ a $2.1 million dollar signing bonus. All I can say is WOW. The state of the availability of good NLF QBs is seriously lacking. Why is it that so many QBs can't make it in the NFL? It's like the game has gotten so much better and faster at every position except QB. I don't think Matt Ryan is that hot either, and he's supposedly the best QB coming out. Thoughts?

Ugh. I was really hoping for the sake of Green and his family that he'd be willing to walk away.

Unless I'm missing something regarding the status of Bulger, Green is likely signing on to hold a clipboard for 16 games. Not bad work if you can get it. Then again, given Bulger's history, Green should probably expect to see some time. And given Green's history, well, you know..

Seems like a reasonable deal to me considering they are paying him to be a veteran backup.

IMO its not the money as much as the fact that you want a concussion for a back up. Shows you the lack of talent at the QB position.

I agree with this post completly, i think it is a high priced contract for a very old (by nfl standards) QB who is also very injury-prone. Not a smart move by the Rams at all, even for a back-up.

Also, I am not sold on Matt Ryan one bit, but here's hoping someone is when pick #7 comes around!

Matt Ryan could provide us with the best trade option if he slips, but I am hoping that he gets selected and helps push somone else to us like McFadden, Gohlston, or either Long.

When you think about we have a pretty good chance of one of the above falling in our laps. We pick 7 I listed 5 people above if 2 guys get selected that surprise than we could land one of those gems. I want and think the mostly likely to fall would be McFadden.

Would you take McFadden over the best corner or linebacker available? I think we are pretty well set at RB as long as Sammy Morris comes back, but we could sure use a stud in the back field or in the middle of the defense. Are you talking a trade of McFadden if he slips to us?

I think it would be stupid to pass up Chris Long or Gohlston. I doubt any of the three make it to 7 but I could see the RB slip easier than any other position due to durability issues of the position.

I agree LB and CB are bigger needs but I have a few premises as to why I want McFadden

1. We have gotten several good CB in rounds 2-4 and with this being a CB heavey draft I don't see why we can't get another one there.

2. we have not drafted a LB higher than RD 5 so if we took one in the 2nd or 3rd round I would feel real good about that guys talent and ability to play in our system.

3. By retaining Moss we have managed to keep one of the best offenses ever intact, but you have to admit it will be very difficult for the offense to put up the same numbers and I see McFadden as a stud RB who could allow the nasty offense we had last year to be even better and more balanced next year.

by no means do I think we should trade out of 7 if either McFadden, Gohlston, or Chris Long fall that far.

While I think BB always tries to take the best player available, I just don't see him taking anything other than a defensive player at no. 7, McFadden there or not. I think it's going to be a the best corner at that spot given our very questionable backfield. All those guys we've signed seem like training camp fodder rather than one of them seriously being thought of as a starter.
