Default Bears trade Brian Griese to Bucs

They now have Garcia, Gradkowski, Simms, Plummer, McCown, and Griese.

BUCS GO BACK TO COLLECTING QUARTERBACKS

With the Buccaneers having multiple millions in cap room available, they've only signed a handful of free agents.

Their latest development? Trading for a quarterback.

Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Bucs have acquired quarterback Brian Griese from the Bears in a trade. For Griese, it's a return to the place where he spent two seasons, 2004 and 2005. The Bucs opted not to pay him a $2.6 million roster bonus in early 2006, and instead released him.

Griese is signed through 2010, and he's due to earn a base salary of $1.4 million this season. He also was due to earn a $300,000 roster bonus fairly soon. Perhaps as soon as mañana.

That's a Murderer's Row* right there.

* They'd have to murder everyone in front of them to start on most of the teams in the league.

I think that best explains it, more than any words could.

Maybe the Pats can pick up one of these guys (with the exception of Gradkowski) for the minimum once he gets cut. Would be nice to have a backup QB with some starting experience. McCown wasn't bad in a couple of starts when Garcia was hurt, and considering how bad their swiss cheese o-line was two years ago Simms did as well as could be expected when he started. Either one would probably be an improvement over Cassel or Gutierrez if Brady were to ever miss a game or two.

Id like to see us get Chris Simms, but that means Phil Simms wont do anymore of our games.

No more of Phil "Like I said earlier, Jim" Simms? Perish the thought.

Jeff Garcia
Brian Griese
Jake Plummer

Looks like a 2000-2001 fantasy team.

More like Phil "Randy Moss isn't the player he used to be" Simms. I'll never forget that backpedal when Moss burned 3 Jet's DB's.

He sounded like he wanted to crawl under the desk and I think I remember it was Jim Nance ribbing him good.
