This is football...not the set of Bonanza, Hoss...

his life is pretty much 100% football, i don't think he cares about anything but football. his father was involved until his death in his 80s, belichick might coach or at least be involved in the organization into his 80s for all we know. what would he do in retirement, besides itch to coach football again?

I personally think Belichick outlasts Brady in New England.

Why do people think this? Does Belichick seem like a guy who wants to do anything other than coach football?

Just as absurd as when people always assumed Brady would "retire at 35 and go into politics".

I'm not seeing it. Unless we're missing something (entirely possible), I haven't seen any indication that he's itching to do anything else.

The "next coach" bit falls perfectly in line with his dry wit.

This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

As crazy as this will sound to everyone, I would honestly take 10-12 more yrs of Belichick at a guaranteed competitive level, than one more SB win and seeing him leave.

It equates to 10-12 more yrs of thrilling Sundays, hope for the future, remaining competitive, and watching incredibly well played football vs a "one-and-done BB year."

I realize that it probably won't be too popular of a statement, but I am totally serious.

The SB win would be just as incredible as the others, but after a few months when April/May rolled around, we'd all be wanting Belichick back, and the high of the SB would likely subside.

FWIW---He's only halfway through his 6 yr deal, so we should have at least 2011, 2012, and 2013 before this is even a problem. I think Kraft will make it happen, and we'll hear about an extension after next season (post 2012 season).

I could see him moving to Director of Football Operations after a few more coaching years, but I don't think he will ever leave this organization. Belichick's profession/hobby/passion is football.

What are you smoking? I'll take a SB over a bunch of years of underachieving and false hope.

I agree, there has always been controversy about who made whom, and BB will stay on for a couple of years after Brady and continue to build this team for the future.

After he gets off the field Mr. Kraft will put him in charge of Football Operations.. and he will continue to leave his imprint.
