Lightbulb Following Workout With Pats, Free Agent Matt Roth Reportedly Increased Asking Price

Following Workout With the Patriots, Free Agent Matt Roth Reportedly Increased His Asking Price
By: Ian Logue

A couple of people asked me about whether or not free agent Matt Roth might be potentially ending up in New England, but that's starting to look a little less likely....

I kind of figured his demand went up following his visit with us. I don't think he's the type of guy who wants a 1-year deal.

I don't begrudge anyone trying to get the best deal for themselves, especially a free agent. I am not sure how much it is a good idea to play chicken though. Who will blink first, Roth or a team?

I suppose the plus side for him is that all it takes is one team out of 32 to blink.

Default Matt Roth's agent says, 1 year/$3 million

Matt Roth has raised his asking price. His agents sent out an email to #NFL teams today saying he's available for 1yr/$3M. #Patriots

A) That's kind of sad in a way that he's sending out emails looking for 1 year opportunities. B) 3 million seems reasonable for his production, we paid Tully more for less. C) Unfortunately, I can't imagine we have any space left after signing Ellis to a 5 milli deal.

Chuck Norris can be signed for less.

That's more than $2M more than either Moore or Anderson, who he'd be replacing as the #4 DE. Not worth it.

At first glance it doesn't seem like a terribly unreasonable price. But after taking a look at Pats Cap....eh....we only have 11 players counting against the cap for more than that in '11. All of whom are well, well, well out of Matt Roth's league.

(Well, all except James Sanders.)
