Great low risk move in my opinion. A 5th rounder will have a hard time making this team due to how young and talented NEP's are. Other teams fans will be hoping he is a cancer and blows up our locker room. What they don't realize is - that if Haynesworth doesn't tow the company line, then he will be gone before you can say, "call the moving company". No season long soap opera drama like what unfolded in DC.
The only real question I have is - how long will it take him to pass the conditioning test? Guess that also signals that Gerrald Warren is unlikely to be resigned. Though probably he would be kept on shadow 'speed dial' roster.

BB playing the cards dealt to him or picking the cards then playing!!!!!
I gotta admit that I, too, was blindsided by this. I was doing a bunch of work early this morning, decided to surf over to the Herald to see what's up Pats-wise. I had just poured a cup of hot joe, and fortunately sat it down before I saw the headline.
WTF? Well, I certainly am wide-awake now, and the more I ponder it, the more I am liking this trade. As others have said, there really is no downside here. If he plays, we're in like Flynt. If he reverts to being a headcase, or his trial goes bad, etc, then he's outta here and we're no worse off.
Yes indeed. The sun is shining, the coffee tastes great, the birds are chirping outside my window, and Offensive Coordinators and Head Coaches all over the league are all rewriting game plans as we speak.
I think everybody is missing the real issue Haynesworth had with the 3-4, he didn't want to play on the nose. He didn't think it utilized his talents as a run stopper and pass rusher. In NE, he will play on the end in the base defense, and probably play in the situational 4-3 formations that Belichick like to put into the game plan.
My guess is that, assuming he makes the team, he starts and is on the field for at least 50% of the plays.
This is such a Belichick type move, low risk/high reward type of thing. If he plays the Pats get one of the best defensive linemen in the game for a 2013 fifth round pick, if he turns into a dog they cut him and nothing is lost except the pick they traded for him and the cap room he uses up this year.
This is a good gamble, it should work at least for this year. Haynesworth need to rehab his image, and as long as he buys into the program here in NE, he will be put into a position where he can succeed. He should be pretty motivated to be a good soldier for at least this year, he probably knows that his contract makes him a one year experiment in NE. He is does his job and doesn't cause any trouble, he could be renegotiated. If be proves that being an ********* is in his DNA and flames out, nobody will touch him except the dregs of the NFL. I'll bet a nickle that he has a very good year this year.
Exactly. Some people are assuming that Albert is a D-Bag and a lost cause. Organizationally and and coaching-wise NE >>> the Washington Redskins. I'm sure Albert will be motivated not only by WINNING for a change, but also to rehab his image, as you said. Very little chance that he "pulls a Haynesworth" on BB and quits--I think the opposite will occur.
I love this move. It might revive the "Is Brace a Bust?" threads as well.
I'm guessing Haynesworth is ring shopping. If that is the case, he might be less of a problem.
Concur. You know who else is not having a good morning? Peyton Manning. You gotta know that with that neck trouble, and having a so-so O-line is going to be making him a tad bit uncomfortable with all this.

Hey Gweed usually the saying is we are in like Flynn but now that you are wide awake
I am sure you are referring to Larry Flynt of Hustler mag. Good One
