Agreed on the brady comments. out of character, and part of an overall theme of the week. Like in any job, attitude all starts at the top and trickles down, and the attitude of the organization in general going into that week played a key role.

all you have to do is look at the planned parades, and waterford crystal footballs on macys.com adorned in the patriots logo and freshly copywritten "19-0". get yours now for the low price of $195!

it was there as late as yesterday afternoon

Humble pie is one of the key ingredients they forgot to pack for arizona. I know we all learned from it.

The early parade plans were the city of Boston's and quite necessary, NYC no doubt had plans of their own in place before the game was even played just in case the Giants won, the Macy's football was Macy's idea and the 19 - 0 book was from the Boston Globe.
Put NONE of this on the Patriots. Their overconfidence came from having played the Giants weeks earlier. They felt they could handle them. In the end the Patriots would have been much better off playing the Packers because they hadn't faced them and could take nothing for granted. I just think the Patriots were overconfident and did not bring their A game intensity because they were facing a familiar foe.
How's this for irony?
Their last preseason game was the Giants.
Their last regular season game was the Giants.
Their last playoff game was the Giants.
Familiarity not only breeds contempt but it breeds overconfidence.

Dude, let the freaking crystal go. You brought this up yesterday. Nowhere do I see that the Patriots organization or the Krafts own freaking Macy's. I will call you out now as nothing but a troll. Pack your bags and go to your "real favorite team's" site...

look... I am not naive enough to say that parades arent planned well in advance. But for that info to be released matter-of-factly is a different story. In all other cases, this has never been the patriots MO. We all know this. I know the media released it but the Pats sources were cited in the planning. We have all seen the video of Bill Belichicks pre game speech before the SB in 2005, where he read verbatim the parade route as described in the Philly Inquirer. We rallied around it. As for the macys football, the team copywrited the phrase, the logo is on there plain as day, if you dont think that the franchise was to be compensated monetarily in some way for the sales, you are nuts. They HAVE to give the ok for that. And they did. Like I said, these are just 2 examples of a common theme that myself and a lot of folks have noticed, that struck us as odd given past experiences in the big game. There are many more, and its really not worth arguing. A lot of people used a phrase "pride comes before the fall" as a eerie precursor to this weekend. The fact that some fans cant accept that does not scare me however, as I feel that unlike them, the organization will no doubt learn from this experience, and go back to the old ways of quiet confidence.

I believe the offense was arrogant. Here's my reasoning:

These two teams played in week 17 with a 38-35 score. The offense was able to put up points at will while the defense, admittedly playing a lot of vanilla schemes, was relatively torched. I think in preparing for SB42, BB obviously tried to emphasize to both squads that they needed to be at the top of their game. The D had no problem buying into this because they gave up 4 Eli TDs and didn't want a repeat. The offense probably in the back of their minds were thinking, "We know we can score," and thus didn't have a sense of urgency.

I look at the job the Pats did in SB38 against the vaunted "best in the NFL" Panthers' DL. The Pats didn't play them that year so they bought into all the hype and were more than ready. Even in the week 17 game, the Pats had heard that the Giants have a great DL and the Pats were prepared. Having faced them once and handling them relatively well, they thought they could do the same again without putting in the work. A similar argument could be made with the offense's performance against the Chargers in the AFCCG as well (at least the passing game).

Light, Mankins, Koppen and Kaczur looked awful in SB42. The offensive play calling, especially in the 3rd quarter, was poor for the most part. They just didn't seem ready to punch back once they were popped in the mouth.

Regards,
Chris

Not to mention Matt Light's false start penalties. Really, NO EXCUSE for those...

The coaching staff must bear some of the blame as well. They didn't seem ready for the Giants pass-rushing schemes - one of which was overloading one side of the line, according to one writer. Is that a new invention? Wouldn't that be easily countered by running to the other side? The coaching staff looked totally unprepared for what the Giants were doing defensively.

Not to mention BB going for it on 4th and 13 from the Giants 31 yard line instead of lining up for a 48 yard field goal. Was that arrogance?

We have become accustomed to thinking BB's in game decision making is perfect, and generally it is, but on this day it was no more perfect than the Patriots season.

YOU are calling ME out as a troll? Why? Because I choose to look at things without blinders? Bury your head in the sand, then. I really don't care. In fact, last I heard this was a public message board where you could share your views and thoughts. Apparently, as I have come to find out over the past few days (there are people here calling for Josh MCDaniels firing, for crying out loud, for having a bad game!), maybe Boston sports fans (of which I have been my entire 33 years of growing up in Providence) are as clueless as a lot of people allege. After all, when, people ask "Why do you hate the patriots and red sox?" the answer given is usually, "the obnoxious fans". Well maybe there is something to that. After spending time here (there are a lot of great posters here who I enjoy reading), there may be some truth to that. Have a nice day.

p.s. - my final post. Off topic, and Something I havent shared because of the defensive nature of many of the posters here... If Belichick taped the pre-game walkthrough of the rams, as it is alleged, and it is proven. I want him fired. I sat on those metal benches, 2-14, rod rust, hart lee dykes.... And I will tell you something, at no point this season was I ever as proud of that team, that logo that I wear on my back, than I was back then. Because whether spygate is a big deal or not (I think it ISN'T, many agree), you can not deny the cloud of shame that THAT MAN (take some responsibility, people and call it what it is) has cast on this franchise through the arrogance he displayed in disobeying the memo to begin with. I think HE underestimated the potential public and media backlash this would bring (right or wrong), and HE is at fault for that. I know you want to blame Eric Mangini, Greggg Easterbrook, the pope...whoever. Some of you have no sense of reality or more importantly honor, I would gladly give away everything this team has accomplished over the past decade for the chance to not be labeled cheaters for the rest of our lives. Wouldnt have to ask me twice. I'm not here for the winning, if that was the case I would have had a very tough childhood, and not grown into a sports fan. There are different reasons one follows a team. I just want to go back to enjoying football that is not marred in scandal. But I know, I know... "WE SUPPORT OUR COACH". Well thats all well and good, but at the end of the day he didnt do me or you any favors, other than bring us 3 world titles that, like it or not, if he's proven guilty, mean NOTHING to the rest of the world. So enjoy it "real fan". Because until then, I'll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt. After "then", if it happens, all bets are off. I root for the UNIFORM, baby! And no coach or player will ever be bigger than it.

Sorry...but the facts are just WRONG here...the Patriots did not plan the parade early...BOTH teams planned parades..THAT is needed as logistics..The fact is Mayor Mumbles came out in public FIRST about it because of Today being Super Tuesday..NY planned it a day later...but the fact that the Boston parade got to the public FIRST gave that impression of "arrogance"..but in fact both cities did. So while taht may have riled up the Giant players..at the same time..it was being planned in NY.
Mumbles should have shut his trap... Same with Macy's...what role did the Patriots have with that Macy's ad? I am sure that that was done before hand.. As far as the copywrite..I am sure they wanted to get it done..but I also wonder about other time this was done way before hand on things...But it was the NY Post that reported it...
As for 1--the Parade..I think every Wed or Thurs BEFORE the SB..i should be part of the NORMAL routine that both cities announce parade plans..days are needed to plan and if both cities are doing it (as they should..) NEITHER team can have an advantage by saying the other is arrogant..just part of what BOTH cities have to do.
As for 2---The Patriots legal department needed to put stipulations on anything like that with logos etc. about the Super Bowl, that any material can not be advertied at all till after Sunday. I think THAT is where the Patrioys could do something.
As for 3---We have NO idea about how teams copywrite things..and when..
the fact that one can find things out on the net a LOT easer now..goes a long way to discovering things. 10 years ago even, this would have been done..no one would know and there would NOT have been an issue.
The Patriots had little to do with any of these..and I fail; to see where arrogance is at all in anything of the 3...If you have MORE knowledge of anything the organization did...please tell us...otherwise that charge is baseless..

I have to admit, even I was surprised when Tom did that. I just took it as a sign of confidence - but if you're confident, you'd better back it up and show it on the field.
