Based on the colour system:
Price is an anomaly and should be in average.
Koppen - overrated
Vollmer - underrated
Hernandez -underrated
All the running backs apart from Clayton are underrated
Brace is solid when healthy.
TBC is overrated
Ninko is underrated
Mesko is solid.

I'd say we should make a play for one of the 4 high-end FA WRs who can stretch the field. Floyd may be the best value.

In terms of interior line: Mankins - Koppen - Connelly is fine to me until Cannon is 100%, but it wouldn't shock me to see Bill take a look at Gallery as he loved him in 07.

I'd look at OLB as well, because even though I think Ninko is solid in coverage and not bad against the run, we need a rusher opposite Cunningham.

JMO

Mcourty was voted to the pro bowl. He might have a 2nd year slump but without question is the Pats best CB.

BJGE is solid to very good.

Woody is at least solid. Hes every bit as good as Faulk and I wouldnt call him average.

Solder hasnt proven anything, but I hope hes very good.

Hernandez is very good. Crumpler is solid as a blocker.

Solder who has never, ever taken a snap in the NFL rated Very Good vs Vollmer Solid? Does not compute.

I dont know about your system, I think it has alot of flaws. SOLID and AVERAGE should likely be combined simply because its subjective anyways. You over rate rookies, injured players and players who have never played in the system. How can you rate any of them above average before they play? If we have 23 players AVERAGE or better(thats ALL starters AND 2nd stringers)why did we have the 25th ranked Defense last year? The OP is so obviously a homer. And why is Meriweather AVERAGE yet you rate his backup as SOLID?? Brown is a bottom of the roster guy who will likely not make this team IMHO. We signed Barrett to an extension, I dont think he is given enough credit simply because he hasnt played for us being hurt. That said I wouldnt value him above bottom of the roster either. And the days of Koppen being above average are over, he was the weak link on the OL last year. Branch isnt far behind. Our TEs are all SOLID, but a higher distinction should be held for those who arent specialists...Gronk could be soon but Herny and Crump are specialists. You wouldnt know from looking at that spreadsheet that we had the 8th ranked offense and 25th defense. Lastly, you have a NOT NFL CALIBER catagory yet you never used it. Do you really think everyone on that chart will play in the NFL this year?? Our castoffs will surely be valued, but as we know what works for us doesnt work for everyone and I can guaranttee there are players that wont make a NFL team. Take off the rose colored glasses please and evaluate again.

It depends on what they want or need him to do.

1st round OLs are usually good risks - it's not much of a stretch to imagine him being a contributor this year - just not the starting LT.

I said nothing to indicate Solder could not be a contributor this year. What I feel is irrational is rating him better than Vollmer, apparently strictly on draft position. AFAIK were Light to nor rejoin the Pats, Solder could even be the LT starter this year. But even starting he could simply be Average or Solid as opposed to Very Good. Most of the LTs in the NFL have to be by definition average or worse. And when you look at it this way, the spreadsheet nomenclature needs revision.

BTW, thanks cstjohn17 for the fun football oriented spreadsheet!

I know he's the forum whipping boy but Meriweather has made the pro bowl twice. If this doesn't make him pro bowl color what does? At the very least he should be upgraded to the very good color.

McCourty also made the probowl last year and should only get better. He deserves the pro bowl color as well.

Overall nice job.

As a side note Welker has an outside chance at making the HOF if he can keep up production for a few more years. If he gets to around 900 catches I see him getting in. I think he has at least 2 more 100 catch seasons in him if he stays on the team. If he wins another ring or 2 with us it'll only improve his odds.

No problemo, to each his own, after the first level of depth my ability to evaluate runs out of steam.

I though the Patriots had the 8th ranked defense, and they finished 14-2, maybe I was wrong.
2010 NFL Team Total Stats - National Football League - ESPN

The main purpose is to score each player to try and get a feel for where the depth is lacking. Obviously it is subjective but it at least an attempt to paint a picture. My picture says they need help at interior OL, Mankins is a huge priority, OLB sucks and WR is shaky.
