I love to hide players... how long for list date for the return? they give a grace period of what? 2-3 days?

I love to hide players... how long for list date for the return? they give a grace period of what? 2-3 days?
Under the previous rules (which may or may not change), any player could be listed on PUP, and could remain there so long as he did not attend a single practice/workout (OTAs prior to pre-season didn't count).

thynx man. we could hide a few players like Ghost,Faulk, Crump, Cannon, Light, Tate w/ a knee excuse and whoever else... you could fake injuries a bit play it out. That hiding stuff is a game... I would no dare hide Hernandez, but a lot of others hell yeah.
I think it is Rec0ckulous how players you draft are not given a grace perion of like 1.5 years. The old CBA needs to change and adopt principles that protect the farm.... it is BS to claim "the rich get richer" ALL teams DRAFT if you are poor at it tough sh it it is your fault. I hate this claim game. Rosters need to be at 55 or 56 NOT 53 my goodness things NEED to CHANGE

Stashing players on PUP is a horrible idea. Not only do they not get training camp or practice, but they can't play until week 6. Who was the last player to come off PUP and be productive?

As noted below, "hiding" players is a bad idea, since if they remain on PUP at the start of the regular season they can't even practice with the team until after week 6.
Crump might start on PUP if he's not fully rehabbed. Ditto for Faulk, and Cannon.
But I wouldn't PUP the others unless there is a clear health issue.

That said, I agree with you. Why would anyone want to "hide" one of NE's better players just to make room for some guy who couldn't make the roster on his own?

Because they don't really grasp what goes into roster building or coaching or how important reps are to build consistent execution? They think it's all some fantasy talent or septh accumulation exercise...and when it counts you just plug names into it like Madden and it all works...

I agree compleately with the players mentioned going on PUP. Faulk Knee,Crumpler Shoulder, and Cannon needing time to get in football shape.
But I believe PUP is the perfect place for all three players and for the team. For Faulk and Crumpler it buys them time to recover from injuries and time to see if the rookies step up and prove they are not needed, in the other possibility that the rookies underpreform or an injury occures they are available to the team. Both players are experienced enough to come in with very little team practice. Cannon may need time to get to full strength,if so this is the spot for him to keep one extra OL on the roster. If he is in shape then the PUP would just retard his progress.
Also if I am correct when a player comes off PUP he has a two week window to practice with the team with a roster exemtion till he is put on the active roster,put on IR,or cut.
The active PUP list is an OK place for Faulk or Crumpler if we feel that are needed only for insurance and are not good enough to make the team otherwise. Personally, I don't think that Belichick would openly lie about either player and have him sit out unitl at least the 7th game of the season, with no practice.
Cannon is another situation entirely. However, Cannon might as well practice and then be put on IR. He certainly won't be much use to the team in 2011 if he doesn't practice until Week 6.
So, for me, the PUP list should be used for exactly what it is meant for. If players are nbot physcially able to participate in practice or cannot pass the physical, then they should be put on the PUP list.
It is the IR list, not the PUP list, that is useful for keeping additional young players whose other choice would be being cut.
