Default Why no love for Dante Scarnecchia?

Here's the assistant head coach for the only 18-0 team in NFL history, who also coaches an offensive line that's sending three of its starters to the Pro Bowl. This coach has been with the same organization for all but one year since 1982, meaning he's worked with seven different head coaches during this period.

So why does Dan Snyder want to hire the likes of Jim Fassel when Dante Scarnecchia is avaliable?

I know it's trendy to hire a thirty-something coordinator these days, but Scarnecchia is just 4 years older than BB and actually 2 years younger than Coughlin.

Scarnecchia may be comfortable with life in NE, but if I were an NFL GM or owner I would be going the extra mile to get this guy.

I think Dante has made it more than clear by now that he's happiest as a career assistant coach, and that he has no interest at all in a HC position.

He aggressively despises dealing with the media. IIRC, he "made himself available" to the media on media day at one of my prior SBs by sitting in the highest reaches of the stadium. A few intrepid reports went all the way up there to interview with him.

There was just a (very) little here :

Great article on Scarnecchia

Dante isn't interested in being a HC, though, to answer your question. I remember wondering why Belichick made him the OL coach when he had been the ST coach under Carroll - I guess Belichick knew what he was doing; as usual.

If a team contacted him for an interview he would just say no.

I didn't see that thread or article yesterday - thanks.

Reading Pasquarelli's piece, it seems that the main reason why Scarnecchia avoids the HC role is because of the media. If so that's a shame, because it's pretty clear that he has what it takes to be a NFL HC. BB should give him a few tips on how to deal with the PR aspect. After all, it's the most overrated part of the game as evidenced by BB's success.

Scar loves his boys, loves coaching and absolutly hates media or dealing with anything that side of NFL. I'm just happy that he's made NE his home!

Head Coach is reaching for someone who doesn't want to be a coordinator. After Weiss left for ND, Scarnecchia was on a radio show and was asked about him being a candidate for the OC position. He stated, "I'm not interested in the job and I don't want to talk about it."

Ok, then.

Did Meyer mean to imply that if he didn't fire Scarnecchia, Meyer would have kept his job?

LOL, Dante is one tough cookie; we need to get his kid out of that Jest organization, though. That is just wrong.

Maybe Dante is a niche guy and is happy and comfortable doing what he does.

Teachers teach. Administrators administer. If you like to teach, then teach. It's less money, but do you want to like your job or not?
