Thanks for enjoying the show, patsfan83 On Welker, I don't see the issue if he's still performing at a high level. He said last weekend that he's made more money than he ever imagined and from here on out, everything is icing on the cake. That sounds to me like a player who isn't necessarily looking to break the bank, appreciates his current lot in NFL life, and might be more willing to find a middle ground in a negotiation.
Get it done, Front Office folk.

Re: Welker: "I've made more money than I ever imagined"
How do you think the PA feels about this kind of comment? Here's one of the top receivers in the league the last four years, who's been underpaid during that time, essentially saying he's not going to try to squeeze every penny. From precedent, these things haven't been favored amongst the union folk, no?

Indeed they haven't, but that quote kinda gives the impression that Welker doesn't care if he pisses off some union folks. He has his priorities, and if they don't align with the union's, then so be it.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck." RAH

They were never happy with Bruschi either, as long as these guys have all the money they need why should they care, not every NFL player spends millions on bling, blow and hookers.

On a serious note, I would bet good money that Wilfork is substantially shortening his lifespan to play football. He may stay healthy when he is done playing, but how much money is 10 years of your life worth?
I don't mean to diminish people that do life-threatening work on a daily basis for 'regular guy' pay. I'm just saying that if I was in a line of work that shortened my expected lifespan, I would be as absolutely greedy as possible. If I'm gonna burn quick I may as well burn bright.

I think you should get what the market will bear regardless.
