Default Former Pats coach Holovak dies

Quote:
FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Mike Holovak, who guided the Boston Patriots to their first championship game appearance, died Sunday. He was 88.

Holovak, who coached the Patriots from 1961-68, is the second-winningest coach in franchise history behind Bill Belichick. He won 53 games during his tenure and his 107 games coached also are second to Belichick.

"Mike Holovak was a great coach and wonderful person," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said. "Our team has lost one of its founding fathers and the entire Patriots family is saddened by Mike's passing."

Mike was a very good coach, and his name was synonomous with Patriots.

I felt the same way about Mike Holovak. He was probably the first

person hired by Billy Sullivan. He was resposible for assembling the

talent for the very first team in 1960. He took over from Lou Saban

and did a excellent job despite very little money to spend. If Mike had

not been able to mould a creditable team, the franchise would probably

have suffered an early demise.

Rest in Peace Mike Holovak. He not only was Head Coach of The Boston Patriots but also Head Coach at Boston College. He was a true gentleman and the definition of what it is to be a 'BC Guy".He will be missed. He was a very under rated coach.
