Default Does Parcells belong in the Pats HOF?

Parcells, Bledsoe and Houston Antwine are up this season.

I vote NO.

I realize that he changed the direction of the franchise, but he also bailed on the team and was a distraction at the Super Bowl. He tried screwing NE out of compensation by naming himself a consultant for the Jets. There is also the Curtis Martin issue.

Futhermore, Parcells quit because he didnt want Terry Glenn. He wanted his groceries and it was rumored that Parcells wanted to select DE - Duane Clemons who was nothing special at all.

As I recall Parcells didn't even fly back home with the team. it seemed as though he mailed it in durign the SB as well (that's unforgiveable even if it's only perception).

Drew Bledsoe helped made the franchise competitive and was one of the centerpieces in turning the Patriots into winners.

Absolutely! Yes, it ended badly (it was partly Kraft's fault for that), but without Parcells there is no New England Patriots today. Without Parcells, this team may never have gone to a second Super Bowl nevermind won a first. He brought key Super Bowl components to the Patriots including Belichick, McGinest, Law, Bruschi, Troy Brown, Vinatieri, and Milloy. He turned this franchise from a joke to a legitimate contender.

Yes, he was an arse when he left, but Kraft stupidily decided to side with the moron Bobby Grier who nearly destroyed the franchise after Parcells left. But there is no denying that Parcells made a huge impact in turning this franchise around.

Yes.
He got the best out of both Drew & Terry.
He was right about shopping for the "groceries".
The Pats FO fiddled & diddled with Curtis.

I think Parcells wanted Tony Brackens, not Clemons. Brackens was a good, not great player who had several years with double digit sacks. He did make the Pro Bowl once. Who knows if he would have been a better or worse player playing with the Pats under Belichick's 3-4?

My vote is for Houston Antwine; then Bledsoe next year.

I think it would great if Antwine and Jon Morris went in together. However, my guess is that Bledsoe will make it in instead and Antwine will hopefully still be around five years from now when the next veteran's committee gets together for another overlooked old timer.

I appreciate very much what Parcells did but you do have to look at the whole picture - same way you would with Chuck Fairbanks. Regardless of how Kraft may have mishandled things, Parcells was not fully focused on that game against Green Bay (spending time negotiating a contract with the Jets instead) in the days leading up to the Super Bowl; that's unforgivable when it comes to entry into the Pats HoF. NFL Hall of Fame: sure; Patriots Hall of Fame: no in my opinion.

Another thing to consider is that after this vote the competition starts getting a lot tougher, as guys from the 2001-04 teams start becoming eligible. It's not only going to make it more difficult for Parcells, it's also going to make it that much more doubtful for players like Russ Francis and Julius Adams.

Yes Kraft was paritally at fault, But I'm never going to want a guy in MY HOF who was negotiating his next deal before, what was at the time, one of most important games in Patriots history.

I recognize his place in Patriots history, but I'm never going to want to reward the bad conduct to the team. Let him into the NFL HOF, but frankly, I don't think the Pats HOF is big enough for that ego

How about saying Bledsoe should be in because he threw for a lot of yards. He had a 63-60 record as starting QB for Pats (98-95 career). That's mediocre, that's not winning. Parcells was the one who drafted the backbone of the three championship teams, Bruschi, Troy Brown, Law, McGinest, Ted Johnson and Milloy (2001). 126-48 won/loss record post Bledsoe-That's winning.
