Default Would you sign Matt Light to this deal?

3 yrs, 20 million total. 7.5 million gaurenteed.

Thats is what Chad Clifton got last year from the Packers. Both are at similar parts of their careers. When Clifton signed his deal, he was a 10 year vet. Same with Light. Cliftons a year older when their deals would be signed, Clifton turned 34 in June of '10, Light will turn 33 in June of '11. Both left tackles. Clifton has been to 2 probowls, Light 3 probowls with 1 all pro season.

With Light being the Pats player rep I dont see him taking a home town discount and this will be his last chance at a big payday. I think he will start with what Clifton got last year, he may even ask for more.

I say "yes" because that is what Clifton got, and with Neal retiring, and Mankins probably heading out of town (or at least headed for more shenanigans), Kazur maybe headed out of town, we need some stability on the line, and Brady clearly trusts Matt Light. He's been a good player for 10 years for us, so he deserves a market deal.

I would have to delay an answer until I see what the team does on draftday.....we take a LT early and it would be a different opinion.

Close to 7 mil a year for Matt Light? If we make that deal I'll be pissed off. I'd retain him for 4 mil a year, maybe.

Have average salaries for left tackles declined since he last worked his contract? All sides of the equation need to be looked at.

In your opinion, what's a fair number in today's market?

Who knows what the market is. Is the cap going down to 115, will it stay at the 123 or if the owners get everything the want and it becomes a 15% reduction in salaries and the new cap is 108. Saying how much he is worth is relative to the cap space we have. I see the cap going down to about 115 and in that scenario I see light getting 2 years and 12 mill. with 1/2 up front.
