I know that was what stood out to more. Really, arguing with a mascott, really.

And the funniest part is that he uses this as an excuse for his rant.....Dude I get the rant football is emotional you just came off the field after a big win no further explanation needed until you say it was because of the mascott now I am way more curious what that argument was like than I ever was for a reason to his rant.

You can trademark/copyright/patent just about anything. For example, someone recently patented 'a stick'. Lots of engineers consider it an entertaining past-time to see how inane of a patent they can get pushed through.

Whether or not any court will actually uphold your IP, of course, is another story entirely.
