Default Breaking the plane and fumbles

Give me the good old days when you actually had to get into the endzone for a TD and you had to bring the ball to the ground. I saw 3 plays this weekend that were absolutle crap. Alexenders non fumble. Pitts TE non fumble and LT's TD.

Pitts TE did not fumble because his knee was down before the ball came out short of the endzone.

If you're talking about the Alexander fumble I think you are, it was a good call. Both his knees were down when the ball came loose. If not that one, I don't know what you're referring to.

As for LT's TD, I'm surprised it took so long to blow the whistle. I mean, he was clearly stopped. Having that extra couple of seconds afforded him the time to reach out and get pushed forward.

I was refering to both your post and the Pitt TE post. The officials are human and can only call what is seen at real speed. In the old days (15 years ago ) both of those would have been fumbles.

Half of this crap is caused by the "breaking the plane rule" if they actually had to get the ball in the endzone than maybe they would stop sticking their arms out trying to break the GD plane.

So whats wrong? Not being able to review the play and getting an obvious call wrong. Or taking the time to review it and not change the possession of the ball based on what someone missed...

Just saying...

I agree with the ball into the endzone and not just breaking the plane (at least when it comes to stand up plays like LT's. But fumbles are another matter all together.

I for one, wish that a player either had to have a body part on the ground in the endzone, or when he crosses the plane, the ball has to finish inside the endzone, like when a rusher extends for a td, and the ball, still in his possession, is on the ground in the endzone.

The fumble stuff, isn't practical with instant replay. The whistle is supposed to blow when a player is down, which is indicated by his body, not the ball.

Football survived quite a few years with the ground causing fumbles. It's actually pretty simple, if you can't take the ball to the ground than it's a fumble.
