Default Assuming We Get Jax, What is Our Strategy?

I think it will be as follows:

Offense - as others have pointed out, when the Steelers used a pass-heavy, hurry-up offense (on the 1st drive and in the 4th quarter) with lots of underneath stuff, Jax couldn't cover them. Therefore, I think Welker & Faulk should have big days, with Brady taking the occassional shot at Moss if he is single covered. Jax has some big (and pretty quick) bruisers up front, so Brady better get rid of the ball fast. One thing was clear - you cannot run up the middle on Jax, so I don't see Maroney having a big day. I bet they use Faulk more, both for his blocking ability and his great screen pass moves.

Defense - stopping the run is at the top of the list, esp. Jones-Drew, who seems to be better at shaking a tackle than Taylor (this goes for J-D on special teams too). Then, I am not sure. I wonder if playing coverage on their average WRs is a better strategy than blitzing. Garrard is pretty elusive, but Pitt did get him to throw 2 ints into coverage (when he was touted as a guy who doesn't throw INTS). That QB draw out of the shotgun on 4th down was a thing of beauty. When I saw them lined up for the play, I said to my hubby - What the hell is he doing in the shotgun? He should be running it! Jax fooled me and the Steelers!

What do you think?

Get a 2 TD lead with the hurry up, limit the run, and watch Garrard meltdown trying to throw his way to victory.

Is there any other thought than spread them out and throw on them all day? I can see some Faulk and Maroney draws since there is no marcus stroud and john henderson has a broken hammy.

I think defense just needs to tackle well and wrap up as witnessed with MJD last year.

The Jags defense isn't great against the pass, and statistically, they are really middle of the pack. What chance does a team with that kind of D have against the Pats?

I still think staying primarily in the 3WR-1RB-1TE is the way to go here. Jags pass rush isn't lethal, but K. Brady or even Watson at the line or to chip rushers has been successful. Faulk/Maroney out of the backfield to dump it off, plus the 4-wide spread was having less success as the year went on.

Let Garrard, bet us.. I know people are saying who would we rather face Vince Young or David Garrard, we would hope for young.. To me both are even, and I think we could beat Jax very handly..

our interior linemen will have no problem against their tackles. pressure on Brady will be minimal. they will be picked apart defensively.

Go with the spread and see if the OL can protect. If they can it will be over quickly. I also look for Maroney to break a few nice runs.

Maybe put Rodney playing a LB/S position to limit the run. If we can limit the run then Gerrard will not be able to beat us.

Assuming that we play them instead of the Titans. But the same would apply to both.

This is an easy one. Stop the run and put the ball in Garrard's hands. Make him beat you...which he won't do, IMO.

On offense, the Jags are vulnerable to big plays. Brady to Moss, Brady to Moss.

ST- Play mistake free and a hell of a lot better than against the Giants.
