Thinking about Rex Ryan bringing in Byrd for motivation tonight, is this where BB brings up the past glory of the Patriots? If not how do you think he motivated our young guys even further (not that they need it)?

That's exactly why he took down the Patriot's glory moment pictures in the facility. He wants to make it known this team hasnt earned **** and isnt a champion. Reminding a young team about past glory doesnt do anything good IMO, just adds pressure to be like past teams. They need to create their own identity.

I understand that. But I also think having some of the veterans who were around back then speak to the accomplishments wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Not in a way that puts pressure on the team, but in a way that lights the fire even more.

Personally, I think he saves that moment for a pre-game Super Bowl speech.

No. At least not the Patriots own past. I don't think he relies on that. Because this is a different team with new guys. But he might have a motivational speaker or something. He likes to reference history.

dont think he does anything like that for this game. its a bigger game for the jets than the pats in that they are the underdogs and need the inspiration etc etc and for the fans. i guess he gives a talk and thats it for this game

I don't think BB is ascribing the same apocalyptic importance to this game that the Jets or the fans are, and having some sort of fancy speech before this game gives it undue weight and would probably psych the rooks out. It's a divisional playoff game, so it is the most important game of the season so far, but it's not the most important game of all.

I would never, ever use past glories as a motivator. I wouldn't even talk about them in any form. Its about this team right now against the world.

The Sullivans called him after the selection to congratulate him. His mother told them he wasn't available. Because he wasn't home. Because he was in the hospital. Because he just had major knee surgery that morning.
