Default Reiss: Key players want to play this coming Sunday to stay sharp

Wilfork, Mayo: We want to play Sunday - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

I can only think this is a great sign, that players aren't satisfied with merely being in the playoffs. They want to stay sharp.

I totally agree. I mean time off is great, and you could see how happy the guys were to have that extra-long break after Thanksgiving. But when it's time to work, they want to work. BB and several of the captains have mentioned how hard this team works compared to other years, how focused they've been on football.

resting players = 3 weeks in between games...that is no good.

Yeah totally agree with ya there.

I just hope we dont have a Wes Welker type injury that happened last year in Houston.

That is part of the game. Guys get injured, even in practice. I say, for the key men, play until the game is in hand, and then enjoy the view from the sidelines.

I don't think it matters that much at this point. I remember similar talk in 01. Pats had their reg season bye week 16 around X-Mas. Then they played Carolina the week of New Years and didn't play again till 1/19. In essence, they played once in a month.

These guys are hurt. Tired. Banged up, You name it. Come the divisionals they will be flying all over the field and well prepared against a team that played the week prior.

All is well.

Treat it like the third pre season game. Play the starters into the third quarter and see how the game is going and decide what to do from there.

Hopefully we just keep fresh players on the field instead of our best players, both with our starters and reserves. Players have a better chance of getting injured when they're tired.

It'd be funny to hear BB shouting "THIRTY MINUTES!!!!!"

Absolutely ... injuries are part of the game ... I say they play just cut the reps down but i think they already do that now.
