Without regard for any of the stats he seems to be hitting the "hole" quicker and harder than he has in the past..

So... Addai has carried the ball 25 times in a game JUST ONCE... in his ENTIRE PRO CAREER... in the game against us this year... and that proves he is an every game 25 carry guy?
I think this is a good example of "don't trust your eyes if you only watch one game".
EDIT: oops, missed the fact he also had 25 in the playoffs last year against KC, but the NE game this year is still his career high in carries.
25 was a bit high however he is averaging 20 carries a game which is pretty good. Just stating the fact that Maroney has not proven as of yet that he can do this and Addai has 2 straight years. Just trying to look at this objectively.
And I see that Addai has forty catches for 300+ yards and Maroney has 4 for 116. Does that mean that Addai is a better reciever out of the backfield or is it that the Pats don't utilize Maroney in the passing game and if given the chance could put up the same numbers.
Well, Addai doesnt have Kevin Faulk on his team. As I said at the time, if Addai were here instead of Maroney, we would use him just as we are using Maroney, and it Maroney were in Indy, they would be using him just as they are using Addai.
Given the fact that I've seen at least 3/4s of Addais receptions and they are all within 2-3 yards downfield, I dont see anything special in his receiving skills, however, Maroney has not been used in that role, so there is no way of knowing how effective he would be.
As someone else noted, Addai has had 25 carries ONE TIME. Since that game, his fabulous average of 15.4 carries for 48.7 yards, with a TOP GAME of 67 yards would seem to totally disagree with with the 'no question' he is a complete back capable of carrying the ball 25 times a game for 16 weeks and the playoffs." That is a stretch of SEVEN GAMES. If you cannot do it for half a season how does that prove you can do it for a whole season, and the playoffs?
Important to note that most of the criticism of Maroney was based on just about 7 games.
If Maroney through 7 games this season had run for 341 yards and a 3.16 average with a top game of 67 yards, imagine how much worse he would have been ripped?
It basically boils down to FACTS, and those hiding under the cover of 'what I see' are full of crap when it conflicts with what is really happening.
Do you ignore the fact that Addai has a very active role in the passing game and is a 40+ catch reciever? Would LT be considered the most compleat back in the game if he caght 7 ball for 100?

No he is averaging 18.4, and over the last 7 games it has been 15.4.
Are you honestly telling me that you have a doubt that Maroney could handle another 3-5 carries per game? You DO realize that if he had not sat on the sidelines in the 2nd half of at least 2 blowouts, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO REASON TO HAVE HIM ON THE FIELD, he would probably be up to 16-17 carries a game on average, right?

On one of Brady's sacks yesterday Maroney was completely uncovered at the 5 yard mark (would have gone for 15 easy) but Brady sat in the pocket looking downfield for 6-7 seconds.
I have to think that they are purposely ignoring the guy for some schematic reason.

OK, so NOW the difference between them is that Addai get 2 or 3 passes dumped off to him?
Kevin Faulk is a better pass receiver and 3rd down back than Addai. If Faulk was on the same team as Addai, Faulk would be getting those catches.
SERIOUSLY, you cannot be telling me that getting dumped off as a checkdown 40 times in 15 games is an indication of the quality of a RB, are you?

I do agree that Maroney/Addai could be interchangeable. Maroney just hasn't proven it yet. Addai averages 9 yards a reception so I think he is pretty productive in the passing game.

No, but think if 15 of those check downs go for 1st downs that could help a team.
