The challenge for pioli in New England is next to zero. Personally, I hope that the Krafts can keep pioli and bill for the rest of the decade, through the 2009 season. Please believe me when I say that pioli can turn over these responsibility to others with little change over the next two seasons.
If the media is correct, this challenge is unique. I would note that this is kind of challenge that Parcells has loved in the past.
BTW, most here seem to think that Mangini would rather be a defensive back coach for the patriots that be in his present situation. Coaching is a tough profession. It is to Romeo's example that Mangini will turn. They both made the right decision for them.

All I want for Xmas is to have one offseason where we dont have to worry about losing Pioli and or, asst coaches. To all the others teams in the league-Leave our F***ing coaches alone.
This is what Chris Mortenson had said in today's chat regarding this issue and other Patriot related news:
Hey Mort, As a Pats fan having the Tuna joining the Falcons and looking for a GM scares me. How can his short list not include his Son in Law - Scott Pioli??
Chris Mortensen: (11:29 AM ET ) That would surprise me. Working with an son-in-law may not be the healthiest thing for all involved.
Mort, Regarding Pioli. That would be a lateral move to Atlanta since Pioli would not have final say. The Pats likely would not grant permission to the Falcons.
Chris Mortensen: (11:31 AM ET ) You're right. The Pats wouldn't grant permission. But, remember, Pioli doesn't have final say in NE. All power belongs to Belichick.
Who dislikes who the most: Parcells-Billichek or Billichek-Mangini?
Chris Mortensen: (11:33 AM ET ) Parcells and Belichick mended their differences a few years ago. They are friends and stay in touch.
It is to Romeo's example that Mangini will turn. They both made the right decision for them.
Totally wrong. Romeo as an older guy continually passed over as a HC had to take a risky football mamangement job because age and time were factors. Mangini could have and should have stayed in NE one or better yet two more years gaining experience as a DC. Taking a job with that awfull NY org and press pressure cooker was unnecessary and a potential career killer. Had The Rat followed his mentor's advice he'd now be a hot property with many potential HC opportunities after this season and he'd have 3 solid seasons as a DC under his belt.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck." RAH
Pioli and BB are best friends. Parcells is Pioli's father-in-law. Would you rather work with one of your best friends, or you father-in-law. That's a toughie...
Ask George Steinbrenner's son in law what it's like working for your father in law after a divorce?? Oh wait a minute, he got fired..Nevermind
We disagree. If you think that the challenges for the patriots for the next 2-3 years are greater than for Atlanta, so be it.
Even if you're correct, who said thats the deciding factor? A primary reason Pioli's wife and Parcells (her father) don't get along is that she didn't like moving around. This was one reason he didn't go to Seattle or NY for more money (and power and rebuilding).
