By my count, we have lost Colvin, Dave Thomas, and Mike Wright to foot injuries.

I am not familiar with what tends to happen to a foot? I dont recall seeing a lot of this over the years. Does a foot get stepped on and broken?

Whats happening to our guys?

I believe the new Field turf being put in many stadiums is causing problems for many players. Dwight Freeney is just another example. Although the Field turf is a huge improvement over the old artificial turf, it still has it's problems.

Consider the stress these D-lineman put on their feet when they explode off the line. With natural grass, there is some give as the grass tears or the sod gives way. These guys squat 700lbs...they do drills that make them more explosive off the line...and this is what happens when there is no give from the turf.

I haven't heard this theory discussed much and I'm just stating my opinion here. But what else could it be?

With field-turf, the surface is a lot stronger. For instance, if you were to drag your cleated foot across the surface of both a dirt/grass field and a field-turf field, you would notice less resistance on a dirt/grass field. It has long been known that you can get your foot stuck in astroturf and get a foot/leg injury because of this.

Fieldturf is supposed to be a lot less harsh than the old astrturf that the Bills have (had?) in Ralph Wilson stadium. It is possible that the tougher field-turf causes foot injuries because the foot cannot slide across the top of the surface as easily as if it were grass.

I have heard it said that FieldTurf actually causes fewer injuries than a muddy field. Haven't heard if it is better or worse than perfect grass, but there are no perfect grass fields in the NFL this time of year.

Dwight Freeney is a poor example for you to bring up: Qualcomm Field where he got hurt is grass.

This reminds me of all the hamstring threads last year. It's football people. People get hurt. They get hurt on grass, they get hurt on astroturf, they get hurt on fieldturf. That three people on the same team hurt the same body part is neither noteworthy nor unusual.

It's possible that different types of turf are likely to cause different types of injuries.

It's football, and it has little to do with the fieldturf. I've played on the stuff, and it's nothing like the old astroturf.

Also, Foot injuries are very common in football, and aren't a new development.
