Yes, it should; but it a noteworthy achievement in any case. Patriots fans would prefer that no team discuss any records whatsoever, since we are clearly the best team over the last five years, or in 2005 or in 2006. The proof is on the field, and five 12 win seasons is a great achievement in this salary cap era. That they have achieved this at the same time as being the 2nd best team for the period makes this achievment even more impressive. And the patriots have two SB appearances in the same peiod.

Since we're on regular season records, I think the Pats' 14 wins in 3 of the last 5 years deserves recognition. IIRC, I think the 49ers did that in 1989, 1990 & 1992 (3 in 4!). I remember the Bears winning 15 and 14 in 1985 & 1986, but no other years.

What is the problem with other teams celebrating their accomplishments? The Patriots are not the only team to heve ever won a game or a title.

Also, the fact that the Colts have been EXTREMELY good the past few years actually makes the Patriots THAT MUCH MORE IMPRESSIVE for having beaten them as often as they did. Minimize the Colts and youy are implicitly minimizing the Patriots.

Sports is all about celebrating victories, whether it's one victory when you are 0-13, a division title when you go out in the first round, or a SB victory. If you couldn't be happy about your team's accomplishments no matter what they are then there would be almost no sports fans out there, and life would be far less interesting.

Seymour was injured for much of the early part of the season
Rodney blew out his knee
Vrabel was playing with a broken hand/wrist
Beisel couldn't grasp the system
Chad Brown couldn't play inside
And the front office wiffed on Starks

Then:

Bruschi returned
Seymour returned
They signed Hawk
Hobbs emerged as a starter
Moved Vrabel inside


And suddenly the defense was shutting teams out.

And they would/should have been 11-5.

This is a statistical oddity more than a "record". The 5 years runs of numerous other teams are more significant than that of the Colts. The 49ers from 89-93 won just as many games, but 14 games 3 times. The Cowboys from 91-95 won 2 fewer regular season games, but 11 playoff games and 3 titles. The 84-89 Bears won just as many games, despite a strike season. The 81-85 Dolphins would have won just as many games, but only played a 9 game season in 82. This isn't even mentioning the pre-1978 runs of the Dolphins, Steelers, Cowboys, Rams, Raiders, Vikings, all of whom played 14 games seasons. This regular season "accomplishment" is nothing remarkable, and is typical of blowhard Polian's chest beating.
