Default Semi-OT: What is wrong with Jason McCourty

Devin McCourty has strung together the best 4 game streak I can remember for any corner that we have had in recent memory. Add to the fact the other solid 8 weeks of play and you have yourself a terrific rookie season so far.

I am not trying to appoint Devin as the new Woodson or Revis but what I am saying is that he has far exceeded expectations for this season and has the potential to be a star. Enter Jason McCourty, who has not had half the production or impact as his star twin brother. He started just three games his rookie year (including the 59-0 Patriots blowout) because of injuries in the Titans secondary. Again due to injury he was a starter for the Titans to begin the season but he himself was injured in Week 3. And has done diddly poo since then...

Career stats for Jason McCourty:
59 tackles, 0 sacks, 5 deflection, 2 interceptions

One of my doubts about the Devin McCourty pick was purely talent-based. How talented can this kid really be when his twin brother, who is basically genetically identical, was taken in the 6th round (203rd overall) just a year before? The McCourty twins were by all accounts inseparable through childhood and starred together for most of high school. Senior year Jason somehow garners more attention (I think Devin got injured) and is recruited to Rutgers. Devin has to red-shirt which hypothetically means he was at some point not as good as Jason (or so they thought mwahahaha). So Jason comes out the draft a year before and is drafted way lower and is buried a not overly impressive Titans depth chart.

So I ask you PatsFans: what the hell happened to Jason McCourty that he has not been able to make nearly as much of an impact as Devin? Did that year really make all the difference? The coaching here in New England that much better than in Tennesse? And I know what youre thinking, their careers have just begun... But other than extreme anomalies who really believes that when it is said and done Jason will have a better career that Devin?

I don't know, but for example my younger brother who shares a majority of genetic heritage with his superior elder is more stupider and not incredibly good looking like his older brother.

A kid makes it to the NFL and even starts some games as a rookie, but there's something "wrong with him" because his twin brother does even better?

Come on, even identical twins are separate people. No talented, hard-working guy deserves to be declared a failure based solely on his brother's success.

Devin was always considered the superior player, especially in college. He just fell behind because of an injury.

I knew identical twins in high school and one of them was into sports and the other was a geek. It happens.

Identical twins do not have the same capabilities, necessarily.

I was high school teammates/classmates with a set of identical twins. Both big strong dudes but had totally different personalities. Both have been successful in life.

In high school one was a workout warrior, high strung and super-competitive. He was all-state in football, track, and wrestling. His twin was a good athlete but happy-go-lucky, liked to have fun, did better in classes, and was more popular because he wasn't so intense all of the time. He was the lesser athlete because it simply wasn't as important to him. No amount of coaching could have made it otherwise.

Are they identical or fraternal twins?

Anyway, Devin has one more year of learning in college and BB teaching him to play in the NFL. Those are probably to 2 reason for the difference.

I hope that there's an identical twin thread somewhere in a parallel universe that is better than this one!

Devin hoarded a few more fast twitch fibers in the womb. That's the only thing that separates them.

How but this for a reason. The talent level in the NFL from top to bottom is a lot closer than most people think and it is a few very small traits or environmental causes that create the differences.
