Mayo is leading the NFL in tackles and it isn't even close with #2. He has more tackles than Harris and Scott combined. He isn't an elite ILB, but he is up there near the top of the list though. He is much better than just above average.
Meriweather was never sold as anything. He showed flashes, but he was never consistently great.
McCourty is having a better rookie season than Mayo. The guy shutdown Megatron which few CBs can do. Megatron caught one ball vs. McCourty all day I think for 8 yards. One of McCourty's INTs came against Megatron on a great play. That is how he has been playing for the last month. He is playing like a shutdown CB. Mayo never reached a comparable level at his position his rookie year.
