Brady wasn't mad at the Colts, he was angry at the refs for not calling it, I think. At least he was yelling at the refs, not the Colts.
Yep, and good for Tom. The Colts are sneaky bastards, but I also understand why they did it.
If WE had done it and it worked and we got away with it, I'd have thought it was awesome.

Here's a little insight as to why Brady was exactly right to be mad.
The clock would have been stopped if the Patriots had moved and a penalty had been called on them and not on the Colts (i.e. had the Colts succeeded in what they were TRYING to do). That would have let them preserve their 2 timeouts and they could have forced extra snaps (leading to a small but real chance of a fumble) and maybe even a punt, I'd have to look at the tape to know for sure the time situation.
But even if there was not time and timeouts available to force a punt, just forcing extra snaps can be significant. Teams have lost due to a fumbled exchange while trying to run out the clock. One was the most famous play in the HISTORY of Tennessee football and it allowed them the chance to win a national championship.
That's also why as the apparently losing team, you still use ALL of your timeouts and you make them kneel down, just in case they fumble the exchange.

Absolutely. It's a rule that has been called before and it has almost cost teams GAMES before. What Baltimore Coach Brian Billick accused the Jets of doing Sunday during their 20-13 loss to the Ravens is disconcerting. That is not an opinion. It is the term that appears on Page 87 of the National Football League rules book — under unsportsmanlike conduct, Rule 12, Section 3 — for the use of acts or words designed to confuse an offensive team at the snap.
Unbelievably bush-league on the part of the Colts. No big deal, no big drama, just childish and pathetic. Kind of sad from an organisation that is so professional most of the time. Brady was rightly furious at the Colts pathetic tactics and, as everyone saw, barked at the referees on the final snap...The bizarre aspect to this is what the Colts were hoping to achieve? Say for example if the Patriots had committed a false-start penalty. It would have been 2nd and 15 and the Patriots would have re-grouped and then run the ball down the throats of the Colts D to run out the clock. There was absolutely nothing to gain with this pathetic ploy.
Before any Colts apologists start hammering away at the comments section as to how anything is fair game in the trenches in the NFL, no, it is not. This is a penalty, when the referees spot it, simulating the snap-count is unsportsmanlike conduct, and results in a 15 yard penalty.
I would add that the author isn't quite right- the Arkansas-Tennesee fumbled snap scenario could result if it's not called, because stopping the clock means another snap. A rare thing I know, but it's why you don't want to take a snap you don't have to.

They should change the penalty. 15 yards and 30 seconds off the clock if in the last two minutes of a half.
That's a smart idea. Very sensible.
I have to admit, I was puzzled why Brady was so livid, but I absolutely love it.
The team had narrowly escaped a dramatic loss. After driving down the field three times in the fourth quarter, Manning was stopped with a critical turnover. With great relief, Brady and the offense ran onto the field to run the clock out for the victory. Brady kneeled down untouched, time was ticking off, and Brady was ticked off. He was screaming at the ref's; if this was basketball he would have been Double-T'd and ejected. And that was literally as the team was winning the game.
The snap simulation is a high comedy. It's sort of like the Delta Tau Chi "coughblowjobcough" scene. Did they yell Omaha? It would be better if they had a recording of the snap count, replayed through the Mike's helmet.
