Well, why yes, I am giving the defense props. Last ime I looked the game was 4 quarters and 60 minutes. Seems a lil buffoonish to only look at the fourth quarter when it's only like one quarter of the game.
Why? well like we won the game because of a clutch INT with a few seconds left. It was in fact, one of three INT's.
Here's your problem:
For 3+ quarters, the defense was pretty dominating. The forced two turnovers and the Pats turned into points. Did the completely shut down Indy? Well no, but then again Indy never gets completely shutdown.
They give up two TD's late, a standard mode for Indy (review the four Indy losses this year) and obviously an area of concern for the defense. In the end reality struck and we won.
It's simply amazing how you can get so duped into the "shredded" nonsense. Maybe you are inherently fatalistic in your makeup. The fact remains, it was a pretty dominating performance turned interesting by two drives where a defense is showing vestiges of youth.
You exihibit all the problems with the fantasy league mentality dominating the sport. Look at this year's games. Big passing yards correlate to losses.
Sorry. For the past 10 years this franchise has been coached by a guy who many consider the GOAT. For ten years, this same coach has stressed "situational football". Yet so many in this fanbase can't seem to grasp this concept.
First read, nay, comprehend before you spew your sarcasm under the mistaken impression that you know better than the rest. The guy whom you flame so badly asked if you are giving props for the 4Q performance. Get it?
Obviously not because you respond with a yes - erraneously thinking that he's asking about the entire game - but concede elsewhere that giving up late TDs is a matter of concern and still proceed to speak down in an insulting manner.
Here's what BB had to say in yesterday's post game PC:
---------------
“There were a lot of great things in the game. Unfortunately, the fourth quarter offensively that wasn’t part of it. Defensively we just didn’t do a good job on our two possessions or their two possessions after it was 31-17. After we kicked the field goal we had two bad drives on defense and two bad drives on offense. We certainly need to do better in that situation as a team.”
----------------
So, be glad even BB - just like other fans and you - admits that our D did not play well during the last few possessions.
And FYI, whether you believe it or not, many on this board believe that BB is GOAT.

I dont know how you can fault the strategy when as you said everything went wrong and it still worked.
Had we been more aggressive if they scored they would have scored quickly.
Again if there are 2 minutes left, and I play a style that would cause you to take 2:05 to score, and you run out of time on my 1, I a a genius, and they guy who plays a style that has a 90% chance of stoning you and a 10% chance of giving you a score, he looks prettier in 9 games but loses one while the first guys looks ugly and wins 10.
Prevent defense is designed to win, not designed to not allow it to get close.
It's not so black and white like you're making it sound. While we did win, the execution of our prevent defense was not all that great. You shouldn't allow TD drives that last only 2:26 and 2:18 when you're trying to eat up the clock. While we ultimately made the most critical play to win the game, you making it sound like it's just the way they drew it up is misguided.

The Patriots tackling was awful on those two possessions, when you play prevent you dont want to have any YAC. The Patriots did not tackle well on those possessions and therefore the prevent looked a lot worse than it should have been.

This is not the first game our Prevent defense has allowed quick easy scores. You look at the Steelers game last week and how easy it was for them to score in the 4th quarter (TD drives in the 4th quarter: 3:11, 1:48, 1:24).
We were a little better against SD. TD drives in the 4th quarter: 4:06, 3:20.
Point is, when we play non-prevent defense as of late, our defense has looked generally pretty good. We've played Pitt's offense, who are always looking for big plays down the field, and Manning's offense, who is always a big play waiting to happen. When we played them in non-prevent, we looked better.

Yes but are you really going to play an aggressive style of defense when you are up 17 with 9 minutes left? No way, no matter what team you are playing. The clock is your biggest opponent in that situation and you just want time coming off the clock. When you play aggressive and blitz that increases the chances of a big play TD in a short time, like one play, which is the worst possible scenario. BB's philosophy in these kinds of situations is to play prevent, it always has been and always will be. He isnt going to change it.
