A thread where NSA rips on Maroney. Shocking really, I mean the thread has nothing to do with him but the first thing out of NSA's mouth is to rip on Maroney. Thanks for your input because no one has any idea how you feel on the topic.

Pioli is without a doubt a great GM. Hovever, he is in a major slump with his draft picks the last 2 years. I don't want to hear this crap that none of the players after round 2 could have made this team the last 2 years because I can assure you that there would be players just as good, if not better, than the Kyle Eckel's, Rashad Baker's, Eddie Jackson's, and Chad Brown's of the world that are currently on our 53 man roster. If you think Maroney was worth the #21 pick in the draft and Jackson was worth the #36 pick than you are kidding yourself.
Funny that every thread you post on you end up having to post something like the quote above. I wonder why? Guess it's tough when you're the only one right and everyone else is wrong. Guess it's also tough that no one reads your posts correctly. Wonder why that is? This really reads like troll postings.

The sticky discusses the rules for determining draft order. It shouldn't preclude a timely discussion of what it takes for us to clinch #2.
That's exactly what it was stickied to preclude in the form of additional threads, not that this thread as it is devolving even covers that...

Let's be honest when you evaluate last year's draft: In essence this is what it was:

Pats 2007 Draft Results

#1 Brandon Meriweather (The jury is out, but we need to wait 2 full years)

#1 Dealt to SF for this year's #1 pick (As of right now #2 OVERALL)

#2 Wes Welker

#3 (Traded to the Raiders for their 3rd round pick in 2008), as of right now, that will be a gain of roughly 25 spots in round 3 compared to where the Patriots would have picked)

#4 Randy Moss

#4 Kareem Brown (Cut now with the Jets)

#5 Clint Oldenburg (He was a 5th round pick - gone, but what do you expect)

#6 Justin Rogers (Cut and picked up by Dallas)

#6 Mike Richardson (Lost on IR, looked REALLY GOOD in the pre-season and has a future on this team next year)

#6 Justin Hairston (Cut)

#6 Corey Hilliard (Cut)

#7 Oscar Lua (Looked half decent in pre-season, will make the team next
year and will be a top backup as ILB)

#7 Mike Elgin (Cut)

So in all honesty, this is what we actually got from the 2007 NFL draft:

Brandon Meriweather,
(SF #2-#5 overall pick in 2008 which could easily bring in a Darren McFadden, Chris Long or Jake Long),
(Raiders 3rd round pick in 2008 - which will be at the very top of round 3),
Wes Welker,
Randy Moss,
Mike Richardson (End up as a top nickel back on this team and give them good depth),
Oscar Lua (ditto).

All in all, thank you Scott Pioli, you did us well in 2007.

It's like the Patsfans.com version du jour of Godwin's law--any thread, if allowed to proceed sufficiently far, will eventually result in board members dissing current players on the team.

[Football Outsiders apparently has a similar Godwinesque problem--every thread there seems to devolve into a Brady v. Manning thread. ]

Huh? I thought the whole idea of drafting players and putting them on your 53 man roster is to get PRODUCTION from them. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing Pioli and Belichick weren't expecting Maroney to be a JAG and Chad Jackson to have NO RECEPTIONS by week #12 of 2007. You think teams draft 1st and 2nd rd picks to get little to NO PRODUCTION from them by week #12 of year 2 of their 5 year rookie contracts? Do you think we drafted Meriweather with the expectation that he would be sitting behind Rashad Baker and Eddie Jackson on the depth chart by week #12 of the season? Seriously, let's call it like it is. Upto this point, day, and time, the last 2 drafts have been DISSAPOINTING.

Absolutely. To put this is a totally non-Patriots related perspective, compare Mario Williams and Reggie Bush. Last year, people were ripping the Texans but this year with Williams having 8.5 sacks and Bush not living up to expectations, you don't hear it as much....Let's wait 3-4 years before judging a draft.........

this one thing everyone here is forgetting when they bash Pioli and BB is that these picks were considered "Steals" by the Pats. These guys were expected to pan out and be good players. Now wether or not that will still happen remains to be seen but hindsight is 20/20 and you can't judge someone badly when at the time of the pick you praised them. there isn't one person here who didn't light up when they chose any of those guys (1st and 2nd rounders) in the last 2 years

Who called them "steals"? The Mel Kiper Jr's of the world? Pioli's job is not to earn "A" grades the day after the draft from the Mel Kiper Jr's of the world. His job is to find players that come in and give us quality production. 1st rd running backs are suppossed to play like "special" players in year #2 of their careers and not like some run-of-the-mill 3rd or 4th rd pick.
