Exclamation Waiver wire question

So how does the Waiver wire work? I know lowest record gets priority but how long does each team get to decide if they want to claim someone?(Minute wise if it even works that way) Does every team that wants the player put in a claim and the team that has the highest priority wins? Do the teams talk to the player AT ALL before actually putting in the claim? Does anybody public get notified if a team submits a claim? Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Any team can put in a claim but highest priority gets the claim. The only way we hear if a team puts in a claim is sources and rumors but it is never officially announced.

I assume they send a form via email. They have until 4pm tomorrow (24 hours).

They handle the supplemental draft with the teams sending a simple email. Can't imagine this any more complicated.

If one team puts in a claim they get him. If two or more submit a claim the highest priority is awarded the player.

I would assume teams in high profile cases (such as Moss) would at least put out feelers to gauge his interest in coming to the team. It would be silly not to, unless the team is hell bent on keeping him from a division/conference rival.

The teams who put the claim in (other than the winning team of course) would have to inform the public. The league won't, unless it is "leaked".

That's how it works and they cannot talk to the player before.

So basically we have to wait the full 24 hours to see if a player is claimed?
Also a team could claim a player that doesn't even want to play for them, thus creating more havoc/drama? lol

He was waived today so teams have until 4pm tomorrow to put in a claim.

Basically, 4pm today, we'll know. It's not like we can say, well 12 hours have passed so we know X number of teams must have passed on him. I wondered that too.

Yes, but the team holds the upper hand in this. If he doesn't report he is placed on a suspended/did not report list and doesn't get paid. He might also lose his free agency and be property of that team next year, depending upon the language of the next collective bargaining agreement.

Or a team could simply claim him off of waiver, give him a call. Chat with Randy, if Randy is cool with playing for them bring him in. If Randy says "no effing way, I have heard from other players about the quality of your caferteria" Team could say, "no problem, just askin, you will be back on the waiver wire tommorow. Have a nice day." Granted now that team and not Minn would be on the hook for Randy's salary instead of Minn if nobody picked him up in round 2.

I was wondering about that. In another thread, it states the Jets have talked to him. Either thats bogus, it's not a rule, or the Jets are in trouble.
