AV did not go for the dough. (He's being paid slightly more than the Patriots originally offered and he never even negotiated with them.) He wanted to leave the Patriots. He wanted to kick in a dome.

He got his wish. But even dome teams play on the road in open air stadiums.

Ghost hasn't kicked many FG's but so far this year he is 11/12 and no missed XP.

They'll find out Randy can't run consistently anymore. He'll drive [Tom] Brady and [Bill] Belichick crazy. This is just my personal opinion from what I saw: He's losing his legs. He's becoming an old man fast.

Call me crazy, but I'll question BB/Pioli when I disagree with them. They make mistakes -- just ask Bethel Johnson, Duane Starks, Monte Beisel, and the 2006 receiving corps. They just make fewer mistakes and more inspired moves (goodbye 4th-rounder, hello Randy!) than anybody else. I admire, I appreciate, I applaud, and when the occasion seems to require, I question.

Edit: drafting a kicker, though, was never a problem in my mind.

I heard BB let AV go because of his performance on kickoffs. After seeing Gost repeatedly boot them in the end zone I can see why now.

Don't forget that the Patriots did in fact try to keep him--and, in fact, were willing to raise their offer to keep him.

In the long run, though, I'm kinda glad they didn't. [I'm quite happy with the kicker we have now, although I can't help but wonder what might have happened if the Pats had kept Gould over Vinatieri in '05.]
