Default Stallworth probably leaves after this year

That's what I think.

4 WR of Jackson, GAffney, Moss, Welker. That's pretty good.

Plus Washington if he stays with a reworked low money contract and the 2 guys on the practice squad. That's plenty.

Gaffney = FA
Washington = highest paid 5th/6th WR in the league

No way, the Pats will pick up his option and keep him till 2012..or whatever the last year of the contract is.

I'd love Stallworth to stay - but if you assume Moss stays then we don't need a $5M WR to go with Moss and Welker. The replacement for Stallworth would be a downgrade, whether it's Chad Jackson (unproven), Washington (with a different contract), Gaffney (if he re-signs) or some other guy. As much as I have grown to like Donte, it's probably just too much money for the WR group.

I think Stallworth stays, Gaffney and Washington hit the road. Cutting Stallworth at this point wouldn't be a smart business move either.

Exactly. It's just as well. Time for some new, cheaper blood. No offense to him.

Stallworth's contract really isn't that bad. Some restructuring could keep him here. He's quite a weapon, especially when it comes to YAC, but ultimately, Chad Jackson might be a more versatile receiver (I know that will offend some at this point given CJ hasn't accomplished much), and therefore Stallworth may become not worth it.

If they want another big time, proven #2 WR I agree. But remember we signed Stallworth before we knew we were getting Moss. I have a feeling that if Chad Jackson shows something decent (even in practice) that they'll feel like he can play that #2 WR role given how much Moss opens things up; then they can spend the $5M elsewhere.

The game has changed. This is now Polian's NFL where passing offenses rule. That's why the Pats will pay to keep both Moss and Stallworth.
