Default Rich Gosselin - one of the very best..why can't we get writers like that?

A lot has been written recently about how awful several of the sportswriters in this town tend to be.

Below is the type of article that I feel demonstrates what a sports fan seeks from their sportswriters.

Gosselin does a terrific job and has for years. He always responds to my e-mails with thought and speed.

Its nice when a reporter does some homework to back up his opinions.

The trick is, you've just picked out probably the single best football beat writer in the country. I'm not sure there are other "guys like that"! What's more, Gosselin's employer just scoured the country for a guy worthy to ride shotgun with him, and found him in this market. And if you read comments on Breer's blogs in Dallas, the fans there seem stunned by how informative his stuff is. Really good beat writers are exceedingly rare everywhere.

FWIW, I'm going to repost something I wrote earlier in the week...

.................
It strikes me that this hardcore patsfans board has very good taste -- and very high standards! We spend a lot of time bashing the local beat reporters, then every single time we consider somebody "acceptable" he's scooped up for bigger and better things.

Mike Reiss: MetroWest Daily News-->Boston Globe (worth remembering this as we dis the Globe, they saw talent and leapt on it)

Tom Curran: ProJo-->NBC Sports (who's going to turn down that career jump?)

Albert Breer: MetroWest Daily News-->Dallas Morning News (arguably the single best local beat gig in the NFL and a HUGE move up from the likes of the MetroWest)

In retrospect, guys like Curran and Greer set an incredibly high bar for local football reporting and are very hard to find.

Gosselin really works hard to be a NATIONAL football writer - he's not a Dallas homer.

The Belo corporatoin owns a lot of newspapers nationally (including the Providence Journal) and he's syndicated throughout the nation in those newspapers as well.

Don't look to him for inflamatory stories where he proposes his own theories yet has no facts to back them up (Hi Peter King!) - but if you just like straightforward good reporting and football analysis - He's your guy.

You named some very good ones.....the best in town right now is Mike "just the fact ma'am" Reiss, to bad we let Breer & Curran get away.

WAKE UP BOSTON.....get some talent in here and please, ask them to check their attitudes, bias and rumormongering at the door.

Add to hs accolades, Gosselin is the single best draft predicter out there. He puts Kiper, Brandt and other websites to shame.

I've seen posts on Dallas Cowboys messageboards that take Gosselin to task for just this reason.

They feel he's "anti" Dallas. Lots of whining about how he "always" picks against the home team, including this week.

Just goes to show, no matter how good you are, there are always some idiots who want your ass on a plate.
