Re: Great quote on the Pats from the Boston Herald...
This space has harped on the depth issue repeatedly over the past few years, mostly because when it comes to winning championships, it’s hard to find a factor that’s more important. The Patriots of 2001-04 taught us that.
Everyone has injuries. Every team looks different in December than it did in September. Often, it’s the second stringers that prove the difference. The Pats are blowing teams out because of Moss, but they’re undefeated because of their depth.
First of all, this is misleading to the point of being FALSE. And it's also sleazily self-congratulatory. It's an I-Told-Ya-So couched in "it's 'cause they didn't have depth!" They DID have depth - there was just an outrageous amount of injuries. At some point "depth" can't be sustained and that is a huge part of what happened the last couple of years.
Of course the WR situation ended up being really crappy, I'm not saying things were perfect, and I'm not saying depth isn't important and that it isn't contributing to this season's success. I'm just saying he's making a phony argument and the context he has put it in is typically Chachi-like - like he's the smartest guy in the room. Smarmiest maybe, but smartest? No. In that world, HE'S the "dog."
