Default A look ahead...Can the Patriots win the division by end of week 10?

I believe the NFL record for earliest division winners is the third week of November or by the end of week 11 set by the 1985 Bears and 1997 49ers.

Will the Patriots win the division and clinch a berth by the end of week 10 and break the NFL record? - I think it can happen and why...

Buffalo - A rookie QB for the next few weeks and a defense all season which looks like second stringers - Will be lucky to win 2 games all year

New York Jets - Pennington and Clemens may be battling weekly for the QB position which is never a good thing and the defensive secondary is getting burned weekly thus far - Probably a 7 game winner

Miami - Green appears to have lost his accuracy and looks old,Jason Taylor at this point this year is nothing special and Zach is not what he used to be much like our Bruschi is now,The defense which was once the strength of this team is not doing the job and the offense with the exception of Brown sucks royally - Probably 6 or 7 wins at best

So by the end of week 10 assuming New England wins all of thier division matches by then and there are no major injuries, the division should look something like this....

New England 9-1
New York Jets 3-7
Miami 3-7
Buffalo 1-9

Which could make New England the division winner by Thanksgiving..Possible? - I think so

All this would do is prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that your Division sucks. No big deal, but it sucks. Well, I guess the big deal is that once again, the Pats are experiencing something the Colts did in the past. And when our Division sucked, Pats fans made sure to let us know about it. So, now that the shoe is on the other foot, could you please spin it for me?

With no offense intended at our division rivals, I have moved all of my concerns to the acquisition of home-field advantage and the overall top seed in the AFC playoffs. Barring injury to you know who the division is basically locked up now.

Theres no doubt the division is all but done barring any injury to Brady which is the ONLY player whose injury could change the division but the earlier the better as we rest our players as soon as possible once we get ahold of HFA possibilities.

It sure would be nice not having to travel anywhere for the playoffs.

I don't think you'll find much disagreement here on this notion.

You seem awfully angry about something, but I can't imagine what it may be. Why does it upset you so much that the AFCE sucks this year..?

There is no way in Gods green earth the Pats will be 9 and 1, or that the Jets will be 3 and 7 by week 10.

Well lets see, I dont think Buff and Miami will win many games so lets look at the jets. They are 1 and 2 and they face:

Buff :Jets win
Giants: Jets win
Philly: Jets lose (though this could go either way)
Cinci: Jets lose
Buff: Jets win
Wash: Jets lose (also could go either way)
Pitt: Jets lose

That leaves them at 4 and 6 (or even 5 and 5) in 10 games. I dont think the pats will break the record.

The Patriots record is going to be what its going to be at week 10. Judging by the way they have been playing this year I would expect 9-1 to be a distinct possibility (the homer in me says 10-0).

Since thats the case, it will only depend on the putridity of the division to ensure the Patriots an early clincher. If division foes were better than .500 (perhaps 6-4) at that point, the division would not happen so early.

To clinch the division that early you really need a perfect storm of one great team in a division of Sillynannies. CAN it happen? Absolutely. WILL it happen? Probably not.

I think the Giants should be able to beat the Jets,The Giants are a better team overall and its possible that the 1 victory Buffalo gets could be against the Jets in Buffalo so you never know.
