I noticed the run defense get a lot stingier when Seau started to get on the field more.

Yes he did. I expected Seau to see more reps on early downs, with Bruschi being brought in in passing downs. The last two games (SD & Bills) Bruschi's playing time has been very limited.
The Herald saw the same thing.
" 3. It seems like there’s been less of Tedy Bruschi, and more of Junior Seau, or, at the very least, that inside linebacker slot next to Adalius Thomas has become a tag-team tandem. Together, the spirited Seau (5) and Bruschi (4) had as many combined tackles as Thomas (9) , who led the team."
Once the team is up by 20+ in the 4th quarter it is time to put in the backups (Alexander and even Mr. LB Larry Izzo). A banged up LB core in the playoffs would really hurt the overall defense.
Looks like next year Seau and Bruschi have to be replaced.
