Why? NE is loaded on the OL. 4 of 5 spots were clearly spoken for and the 5th had 3 guys who all started at times the prior year. Then add in Yates and Hochstein and you have limited spots for a rookie OL.

By comparison, NY has one spot that is truly locked up (C) and one spot that will be held due to draft status. Every other position has an opening. Just because a guys doesn't make one squad doesn't necessarily make him a bad player.

A couple examples:

Vrabel was on the outside looking in for playing time in Pitt because they were loaded at LB.

Welker made SD, but got cut after week one because they needed his roster spot and he essentially just duplicated Tim Dwight's skills.

Ability + Opportunity = Making the team. Just because there wasn't an opportunity here doesn't mean that there isn't ability.

No, they are using guys that were drafted on the second day to backfill picks lost on the second day. Plus they get the benefit of knowing the players were well coached.

Again, there is nothing wrong with what the Jets are doing. Their OL sucks and they are picking at the scraps to see if they can find a nugget. How is that any different than NE grabbing safeties like they were going out of style in 2005?

There are plenty of reasons to poke fun at with the Jets. I just don't see why this is one of them.

Thanks for listening.

God: Since you have infinite processing power, why not use it against the Jets? Amen.

Yes. One violates an expressly written rule and memo from the comissioner.
The other does not.

So they got to have their cake and eat it to. How is that a bad thing again?

As I said in another thread, the Jets have moved up pretty high on my loathe list too. I hope that they go 0-16 for the next 7 years too. But there is no reason to manufacture reasons to attack them. Their games are material enough.
A well thought out observation. BB used his second day picks to provide some material for Dante's offensive linemen school. Non were ready to play and all needed a few years of grooming. Hilliard didn't work out and both Oldenburg and Elgin looked to be keepers if they could get them to the PS. They lost Elgin and I guess Oldenberg wasn't working out.

If I were cut, I'd look for an opportunity anywhere, so I hold no grudge against any exPat talking with any team including the Jets, looking for a job.

Its an interesting approach that you suggest that Tangini took to use up their own second day picks for better first day picks. And then taking second day picks from other teams that tried to stash them on the PS to develop, in order to make up for it.

Good idea.

Relax, the Jets' signing of Oldenburg was predictable even before videogate.

OK...It's THAT time again...Who are the final 21 cuts...

I, too, agree with your line of reasoning. BB/SP mined a similar vein in 2000 & 2001.

BTW, how the heck do you pronounce "Oswlek"?

I wish that the FO did indeed act as you had predicted, because the draft's 2nd day for the NEP was a complete failure, as I feared. The 2007 draft has unfortunately more resembled the 2004 draft than it has the 2003 draft.

I asked "Why is it worse" not "Why was it punished".

I guess just because it is a rule.........
