I'm as big a Rodney (and Pats) fan as anyone here on this board, and cannot stand the Colts. I think Rodney is great on tv. That said, let me just make sure I understand this correctly:
Harrison criticizes Dungy = good, want to see more of it
Dungy criticizes (insert name here) = sanctimonious piece of crap, shouldn't do it
Just so I understand how the system works is all....
Just remember that most people are idiots and have no notion of personal consistency. That covers pretty much everything.

[QUOTE=ivanvamp;2156172]His job is to talk about matters relating to the NFL, not just x's and o's. The Bush situation is a *big* deal, not just for the NCAA, but also for the NFL, because Bush is a star. All kinds of people in the media are offering opinions on what the Heisman committee should do, what Bush should do, what USC should do, etc. Dungy also offered his opinion on it. In essence, he (Dungy) did nothing different from what other media figures have done. People here hate him (fair enough). But I find it ironic for people to criticize Dungy because Dungy criticizes others. Those that criticize Dungy are doing the exact same thing that they are saying Dungy shouldn't do - that is, offer an opinion about how people should (or shouldn't) act.

Says you, but that's not the way I see it. This MB has forums for everything from political banter to great places to eat. That's where that talk belongs. Like another poster said about Dungy, he has a lot of great insight when talking about football and I will listen to it, but he should leave his soap-box at home.
And he just called Brees one of the top-2 QBs in the NFL. When Dungy tried to throw in Manning's name, Rodney shot him down
I love Rodney, he's probably my favorite Patriot of all-time not named Tom Brady, but that's not how it went down. Unfortunately Rodney was too passive in that exchange. I recorded the pre-game and this was how it was said:
Harrison: "Matter of fact, Coach, if you look at the last two seasons, his (Brees') production has been off the charts. He's probably one of the top two quarterbacks in the National Football League."
Dungy: "Top two? Wow. So you're saying he and Manning, where's your quarterback?"
Harrison: "You put Manning's name in it!"
Dungy: "I assumed you did, yeah!"
Harrison: "I would have to say Manning."
For what it's worth, that exchange seemed rehearsed or, at the very least, forced. It would be consistent with what SVN mentioned earlier.

Dungy can behave anyway he wants, but I watch football because I want to hear about football. When a football analyst starts pontificating how others should behave in their personal life then I think he should keep his mouth shut. I would bet that Dungy has more than a few skeletons in his own closet that would probably contradict a lot of things that have come out of his mouth.
I'm sure he does. But that's irrelevant. He gets paid to offer his opinions on these matters, not just x's and o's. That's his job. Tons of other media figures get paid in similar fashion to offer their opinions just as Dungy does.
We don't like Dungy. I get that. I'm fine with that. But I guess I think it's funny that we - who don't get paid to offer our opinions on things related to the NFL - feel free to criticize Dungy for offering his opinions on things related to the NFL, when that's his *job*.

I hear you. But NBC wants him to offer his opinions on all things related to the NFL, not just x's and o's. So he'll keep doing it. I guess if it bothers you so much, pretty much the only thing you can do is to not pay attention to him. Kind of like what I do with Borges.
Feisty Rodney or not, by the way, the show is still not watchable.

On the pre game channel 4 show Dungy was asked what he told his players about a Repeat after winning the Super Bowl. Dungy replied that "its a new game , put the rings away.. etc..etc.. ".
Harrison leaned over to Dungy and said " Maybe they should have listened to Belichick".
