RUMORS FLY THAT SEYMOUR WILL MISS THE SEASON

A league source tells us that there are rumors on the NFL grapevine that Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour will miss the entire 2007 season.

Per the source, the talk is that offseason surgery on Seymour's left knee resulted in some significant complications.

Seymour is on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and by rule must stay there for at least six weeks of the regular season.

The procedure was described as arthroscopic, which is minimally invasive in nature. The type of complication currently is unknown.

Hopefully this turns out to be as true as the "Randy Moss to be cut" rumors which came from the same place.

I know it's a rumor site, but there needs to be at least a little smoke and the occasional fire to have them retain any credibility. So far the only thing they've had is the raging inferno that was Michael Vick, and any brain-dead idiot could see that one coming.

PFT is reporting a RUMOR that is going around the NFL. It is a RUMOR MILL. I don't know how many time we have to point out this obvious FACT. Relax.

I believe rumors when they actually turn out to be true.

I love when Florio posts about the Colts and Chargers being in trouble it's always "He's so right."

But whenever he hears something negative from his myriad sources about the Pats, everyone abandons ship and claims it's just a bunch of crap.

I'm not saying Florio is always right, because he isn't. But Rumor Mill isn't exactly the right name for his site. His sources have been shown to be good enough that they're usually more than rumors.

But we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss anything he says if it's negative about the Pats. It happens EVERY time I post something from PFT. I can usually predict that the first three posts will be "What a load of BS. That's just a rumor."

Guys, who knows what's going on with these rumors, I wouldn't be shocked if BB spread the rumor himself. We'll go week by week, but don't go nuts on Florio, he just reports rumors. We can't get so damn defensive when it is about the Patriots. We are the team to beat right now and people are craving for news about us, so I'm sure Florio reports as often as he can about the Pats. It's no big deal.

If you are one of the players flinching at the harshness of these words, you might as well begin packing. There is no way you are going to last as a New England Patriot."

There's been a TON of angst and fury directed at Florio and PFT the last few days - I'm guessing borne of nerves. Relax. We'll see what happens with Seymour. I wouldn't put it past the Patriots AT ALL to fuel some of these rumors - they hate being seen as infallible and "on top," so maybe this stuff takes the heat off a bit. What do they care?
