Default Schefter: Asante got conditional guarantee he won't be franchised

According to Adam Schefter, Asante got a guarantee he won't be franchised if the Pats win a certain number of games or he plays a certain number of plays (didn't say how much). This is similar to the deal Lance Briggs got.

He got assurances that, if certain conditions are met, he will not be franchised again.

The conditions are if Samuel plays a certain amount this upcoming season or if New England wins a certain amount of games, the Patriots will be prohibited from using their franchise tag on him again.

The exact amount of playing time or games won is being kept under wraps, for now. But the Bears promised franchise linebacker Lance Briggs that, if he played in 75 percent of Chicago's plays, they would not franchise him after this season.

Briggs' percentage is thought to be similar, and higher, than Samuels'. The Patriots also vowed that if they win a certain number of regular-season games –- logically thought to be in the double digits –- then Samuel also will not be a free agent.

Now, if the season goes the way Samuel and New England would like, the Patriots' franchise cornerback will become an unrestricted free agent after this season, becoming one of the marquee players available.

I'd have told him to sit his ass out until week 10.

I thought they conceded.....So what happens if the Patriots are close to the game's won thresthold that allows the Pats to tag him again.....and in that game Asante get's a sure pick 6....does he drop it?.... I think he screwed up in this part of the report "The Patriots also vowed that if they win a certain number of regular-season games –- logically thought to be in the double digits –- then Samuel also will not be a free agent.
"

Either way, by and large, we can expect him to walk after this year unless he strikes a long-term deal here, which I wouldn't expect.

I have to assume that "not" should be erased, otherwise the thing makes no sense.

In any case, IF this is true does it mean an end to all the posts saying "he was just being a jerk by holding out, he had nothing to gain from it?"

That was most certainly a typo after watching the Adam report it on the NFL Network's Around the League....the video appears on the right side of the link....Its a combination of the Patriots winning a certain amount of games and playing time and hes gone.
